Martin Neuhofer Obituary

Martin Neuhofer of Inglis, MB passed away on November 18, 2025 at the age of 94 years.

Martin Neuhofer was born on August 10, 1931 in Eugendorf, Austria. He was the third child of Martin and Juliane. He was raised with his four siblings on the family farm.

Although he grew up on a farm, Martin’s real talent lay in mechanics. As a young apprentice, Martin was called to Plainfeld, a neighbouring village, to repair a truck belonging to the local miller. It was there that he met one of the millers’ daughters, his future wife Elisabeth Frauenlob. They were married on June 10, 1957 and remained married for 64 years until Elisabeth passed away in 2021.

The same year they were married, Martin and Elisabeth established a repair shop in Eugendorf. This later became a Ford dealership which employed 20 people. In 1972 the business was expanded to the building of a Mercedes-Benz dealership in the town of Kuchl.

In addition to starting and expanding their businesses, they also started a family. Eight children made for a very busy life and by the late 1970’s Martin and Elisabeth were getting tired of the stress of running two businesses and were wishing for a slower pace of life.

On July 16th, 1980 they arrived in Canada with five of their eight children. The plan was that Martin would farm with two of Elisabeth’s brothers but his calling to be a mechanic was too strong and he opened a repair shop in 1984.Business was brisk and Martin spent many years doing repairs for the local farming community until his son Paul took over the business.

In 2023 Martin found it necessary to leave his home of over forty years. He soon found a new spot to enjoy his remaining time, on his son Martin’s property. Family members that were able took turns visiting, bringing food and caring for him until he moved into the Roblin Personal Care Home in August of 2025.

On November 18, with family members in attendance, Martin received his last rites and passed away a few hours later.

Martin was predeceased by his wife Elisabeth, his parents, Martin and Juliane and siblings Josef, Maria and Anna.

Left to mourn Martin is his brother Hans (Elfride), his children and their spouses Martin (Margaret), Elisabeth (Tony) Szraka, Gertraud (Ingo), Georg (Brenda), Rudy (Farah), Paul (Jennifer) along with his twenty-two grand-children and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Martin also leaves behind daughter Claudia (Mark) Keating and son Bernhard (Shannon).

A service of remembrance for Martin will be held at a later date. Donations may be made in Martin’s memory to the Inglis Grain Elevators National Historic Site.
