Marion Skomorowski Obituary

In the early morning hours of Saturday, February 27, 2021 Marion Skomowski peacefully fell asleep in her “home” at the Grandview Personal Care Home at the age of 100 years.

Marion was the third of ten children born to Nick and Francis Dadey (Ozarow) at Rossburn, MB on January 4, 1921. In June 1926, Nick Dadey purchased a homestead for $10 in the Pleasant Valley District with the family relocating in 1927. Marion received a limited education at Denepro School and even had a job as the “fire person” who was responsible for starting the morning furnace fire during the cold prairie winter months. With the Dadey family growing, Marion stayed at home to help her Mother with the domestic chores required to raise a large family on the farm.

On April 15, 1939 Marion and Harry Skomorowski united in marriage. Together they farmed and raised a family in the Pleasant Valley District. Their first child was Charles, born in 1942 and their second child Helen, born in 1954. Marion and Harry retired to Dauphin in 1972 and passed the farm to Charles and Ricki. While in Dauphin, Marion was kept busy with raising another child, her granddaughter Georgi in 1974.

Marion loved her life on the farm. There was always the milking, the poultry, sewing and preparing food. She always had a large garden that she loved to tend and harvest and there was always an abundance of food preserved or frozen for us to eat. Marion never liked to have anyone leave her house without feeding them, even if they dropped by for a minute.

However, Marion’s favourite thing to do was making quilts. She could hardly wait for winter to arrive so she could start sewing. Harry’s job was to card the wool, place in nice stacks, and she would arrange it for her quilts. Then she discovered the rolled quilt batting, so Harry lost his job. After they moved to Dauphin she continued to make quilts until her eyesight failed.

Harry passed away in 1989 and Marion continued to live in Dauphin until 2015 when she had a stroke. Her new “home” then became the Grandview Personal Care Home. Needing to be busy she looked forward to folding the towels and would sit waiting for the cart to roll by, then it’s off to do her “job.” Marion’s eyesight and hearing were poor but she was still very mobile for a centurion, walking on her own to the bathroom or even across the hall. However, on February 20, she had a fall and fractured her hip that required surgery. One week later, on February 27, 2021 she peacefully fell asleep at her “home” in the GVPCH.

Marion was predeceased by her husband Harry and son Charles; as well as her parents Nick and Francis Dadey and siblings Katherine, Anne, Jessie, Rose, Alex, Lawrence and Nick.

Surviving to cherish the time had with Marion are: her daughter Helen and daughter-in-law Ricki; 5 grandchildren: Georgi (Deji), Fraser (Tina), Aaron (Marcy), Warren (Rhea), Tyson (Vickie); 11 great-grandchildren: Grace, Zackery (Shannon), Rebecca, Emily, Teah, Keelah, Brix, Domonik, Isobella, Teagan, and Larisa. And the remaining surviving Dadey siblings Harry, Stanley and Donna.
