Obituary

Maria Moseychuk (nee Romanec)  passed away on August 30th, 2023 in Grandview Manitoba at 69 years of age at the Grandview Personal Care Home.

Maria was born on February 4, 1954 in Winnipeg, MB to Mykola and Katerina Romanec (nee Klaczko) in Winnipeg, MB. She was the first member in her family to be born in Canada. Maria was incredibly proud of her Ukrainian heritage and shared this with her daughter.

Maria loved her family more than anything. She was incredibly proud of her daughter Madelaine (Leni) and her two granddaughters Bethany and Allyson were her pride and joy. Maria also loved her son-in-law Christopher like he was her own son. Maria loved spending time with Madelaine, Chris and the girls. Maria also treasured her time with her brothers Eugene and John and her sister Anne. Maria always made a point to be a part of any family function. These family gatherings left her heart full.

Maria was a teacher at Smith Jackson School for over 20 years. She was incredibly proud to be part of the teaching staff at the Ukrainian Bilingual School. She dedicated her life to teaching and helping her students. Maria saw each student as an individual and understood that each child learned differently. She spent countless hours preparing her lessons and ensuring that her classroom was always a warm and welcoming place for everyone. Teaching was Maria's passion. After her retirement, Maria was a substitute teacher at several schools throughout Mountain View School Division including Ecole MacNeil. Ethelbert School and in Winnipegosis.

Maria was a fabulous cook and she loved to entertain. She was also a shopaholic and enjoyed going to different stores to buy all kinds of stuff. She especially enjoyed finding a good bargain, even if it was something she did not need. Maria loved to garden and spent countless hours at the greenhouse. Maria got a lot of joy from working in her flower and vegetable gardens and loved to watch everything grow and bloom. She also loved animals and always put out food for the birds and squirrels, but she especially loved her cats. She was a fabulous cat mom to many felines. All were well taken care of, loved and in true Ukrainian fashion, extremely well fed.

Maria was diagnosed with V-tach in 2011, had major spinal surgery in 2017, with stroke in 2021 and with vascular dementia in 2022. In March of 2022 Maria moved in to the Grandview Personal Care Home where she resided until her passing. The staff at the Grandview PCH provided excellent care to Maria and always with kindness, compassion and dignity.

She is survived by her only child Madelaine Lark and son-in-law Chris Lark, her pride and joy, granddaughters Bethany and Allyson Lark of Dauphin, sister Anne (Tolya) Panchenko of Seattle, WA, brothers Eugene Romanec of Winnipeg and John (Carrie) Romanec of Winnipeg along with several nieces and nephews and co-mother-in law and special family friend Patricia Lark of Dauphin.

She was predeceased by her parents Katerina and Mykola Romanec.
