Marge Weerts of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the age of 91 years.
Marjorie” Marge” was born on March 3, 1934, in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan. She was the oldest daughter of Rose and Donald Mann. The family moved to the Turtle River District where she attended school until Grade 9. She stayed at home and helped her mom and dad on the farm and cared for her five siblings.
The Weerts family were friends and neighbors with the Mann family. Arnold took a liking to mom when she was 14 years old and they started courting at 17. She married her love on November 9, 1951. They had a small farm in the Makinak district where they struggled until Dad got a job building roads on a drag line. Their son and first daughter Albert and Marilyn were born here and then they moved to Ochre River in 1957. They completed their family with three more girls, Debbie, Kathy and Donna.
In 1965 They moved to Dauphin. Marge started working after a couple of years as a cashier at the Shop Easy store for a short period of time and then she went on to work for the government as a head cook at the McKay Residential School for 20+ years. When the school closed, she was employed by a dear friend, Linda Watts - Dial A Maid cleaning houses. In 1978 (her retirement) they purchased their cabin at Hills resort and were still residents up until her passing. This was their second dream home. This is where Mom loved going and hosting her family and friends. Many a good time was had playing cards, sitting around a campfire, swimming, playing horseshoes, lawn darts and the dart board, boating and especially fishing.
She loved planting flowers and feeding the hummingbirds. Her cabin always looked so nice with all the flowers. She was so proud of them. Mom and Dad also took pride in their garden and flowers at their home in town on Cruise Crescent. There were always enough potatoes, tomatoes, beans, peas, cucumbers, etc. to share with their 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren. They loved to sneak into their garden and help themselves until they got caught. Many hours were spent canning and freezing their vegetables. She would often host huge meals with her kids and grandkids. She had a “Family” board with all the kids and grandkids names on it and followed it closely, never missing a birthday for any of them. She loved to bake and supply all the dainties at major holiday meals. She loved playing cards and going to bingo. In 2013 Mom had breast cancer and survived. In 2021 she had skin cancer and had a thumb removed and survived until complications in May of this year when the cancer won and took over. But despite all this, she still had lots of giggles and smiles for family when they visited her at the hospital. We love you Mom/Grandma and you will truly be missed.
Marge is predeceased by her love Arnold, her parents Rose and Donald Mann, her brothers Raymond, Norman, Gordon and Kenny.
She leaves to mourn; her five children Albert (Eleanor) Weerts, Marilyn (Jim) Simpson, Debbie (Murray) Lennartz, Kathy (Claire) Stroud and Donna Kuhmayer; eleven grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren; her loving sister, Donna Bloomfield and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
