A RANCHER-LOGGER’S PRAYER
Bless me with friends who come when I call
Land that’s fertile so my crops will grow tall
Reliable equipment that doesn’t break down
Weather that’s perfect sunup to sundown
A bountiful harvest I will not regret
For I am a Rancher and Logger,
on this you can bet!
Amen.
One of Margaret’s messages to our family in her final days was:
“I am ready to go. When I go, I want everyone to be happy for me. I want everyone in the family to know that I love them all.”
Donations in Margaret’s memory can be made to a charity of your choosing.
It is with great sadness that the Holt family announces the peaceful passing of our beloved Margaret Eileen Holt (nee McCreery) on 13 September 2021, at the age of 88, in Waterhen, Manitoba, in the quiet comfort of her humble country home, with beloved family at her side.
Margaret was born to Arthur James McCreery of Montana, USA and Ragnhild Johanne Forsback of Helgeland, Norway on July 3, 1933 in Winnipegosis, MB. She grew up Waterhen, Manitoba with her brothers Dale (deceased) and Jim and her sisters Joan, Joyce, Sharon and Betty (deceased). Joan, Joyce and Sharon were able to be with Margaret in her final days, which was a great joy and comfort for her.
Margaret married her husband Charles Henry Holt July 29, 1952, and they built a life ranching and harvesting timber, raising livestock and rearing children. Margaret loved gardening, reading, doing crossword puzzles, sudoku number puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. She was a devout member of the Seventh Day Adventist faith, and enjoyed the fellowship, meals and live music performed at church gatherings. She loved visiting and speaking with family and friends on the phone, and had a very special relationship with her dear friend Audrey, with whom she would often hit the road on adventures that took them to Dauphin, Winnipegosis, and Ste. Rose.
Margaret was predeceased by her daughter Nadina in 2008, her son Joseph in 2015, and her husband Charles in 2016. When “Charlie” died, she drew on the strength of her family, friends and church – and her canine companion Shuri, who was never far from her side.
Margaret and Charlie’s memory is cherished by their children (Virginia [husband Kenneth Spence]; Gayle [husband Martin Bonnett]; Lyle aka Hank [former wives Cindy, Pat (deceased) and Mona (deceased)]; Bill [wife Colleen]; Debra [husband Jim Drew]; Lee [wife Shannon]; Tony [wife Shirley]) and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
