It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret Jennie Chaykowski (nee Miller) on Saturday, May 24 at the age of 90 years.
Margaret was born on September 22, 1934 to George and Nellie Miller (nee Kotlarchuk) in Dauphin Manitoba. The family moved often because her Dad worked for the railroad. Margaret decided to enter the workforce at a young age and moved to Winnipeg where she worked at the Norwood Hotel as a waitress. After a few years, Margaret decided the city was not for her and moved back to Dauphin to be closer to her family. Margaret married Walter Chaykowski and they resided on the family farm in the Keld area. Margaret was blessed with three children, Terril, Greg and Laurie. She was very proud of her children and their accomplishments and shared their stories and successes with family and friends. She was also very proud of her grandchildren and looked forward to their visits and spending time together.
Margaret had never lived on a farm, but she jumped right in and started helping with whatever was needed. She could be found hauling grain, picking stones or fixing granaries which was why she was given her nickname “Ralph”, if something needed fixing, she would tackle it. She planted a large garden and loved picking berries and mushrooms. Margaret worked at Woolworth’s, Woolco and Wal-mart in Dauphin. She saw many changes through her years of working for the store. Her biggest accomplishment during her career was being promoted to Customer Service Manager. She loved people, which made her perfect for the customer service field. She always had a smile on her face and a friendly hello to greet the customers. While working a full-time job and helping on the farm she still found time to volunteer with local community groups as needed. After her retirement her grandchildren became her priority, and she would look forward to any opportunity she got to spend time with them. Family was always the most important thing to her, and she would reach out to extended family just to see how they are doing to ensure that the family ties were not broken. Margaret enjoyed music, baking, cooking, knitting, gardening and visiting with family and friends. She was a very hard-working, kindhearted and loyal individual, one that you could always count on and would always be there if you needed help.
Margaret is predeceased by her Husband: Walter; Parents: George and Nellie Miller (nee Kotlarchuk); Sisters: Tillie and Olive and Brothers: Walter, Melvin & Edward.
She is survived by her children: Laurie (Ivan) Hykawy, Greg (Cecilia) Bobrowski, Terril (Ken) Hilland Grandchildren: Katelynn, Kevin, Brock, Cassandra, Clinton. Jeremy, Brody and Nicole.
