Louis Debeuckelaere Obituary

Louis Debeuckelare of Ste. Rose du Lac passed away on Friday April 4th, 2025 at the age of 84 years old.  Louis was the son of Charlie and Yvonne (Cottyn) born on June 3rd 1940 in Ste. Amelie, Manitoba and brother Jerry completed the family in 1947.

Louis attended school in Ste. Amelie until Grade 8 and then helped on the family farm.  In his early years, he worked on many construction sites that included building bridges, the Ste Rose Dam, and the scrub crew for the hydro line from Grand Rapids to Dauphin.

Louis bought his uncle Gerard’s farm and then married Louise Haun in April of 1970.  Friday, April 11th marked Louis and Louise’s 55th wedding anniversary.  Nicole came in 1971 and Cathy in 1974.  Louis and Louise ranched and farmed alongside brother Jerry. At their busiest they had 998 head being sent out to pasture.    Several decades of hard work and commitment –or maybe just Belgian stubbornness turned into a successful farming career

Louis loved to host family gatherings and created many memories with brothers, sisters, neighbors, cousins and of course the Cottyn uncles.  Everyone here today likely has a story or two about those gatherings.

After 28 years of farming Louis and Louise built a house in Ste Rose and retired in 1998.  Louis filled his time gardening, checking other’s crops and noting how much rain accumulated.  He enjoyed chatting with those who stopped in for a visit and those who joined him for coffee or a sip of whiskey.
Louis was predeceased by his parents Yvonne (Cottyn) and Charles Debeuckelaere, as well as brother in laws Cam Haun and Ron Mulligan and sister’s in law Mary Haun and Bernadette Desjardins.

Louis will be missed by his wife Louise, children Nicole Debeuckelaere and Cathy (Clay) Shoemaker, and his grandchildren Jude & Amelia, his brother Jerry, Brother -in -Laws & Sister -in -Laws Fred & Jeannette Haun, Franny & Tommy Sabo, Henry & Genny Haun, Gerry Desjardins, Joanne Haun, Helen & Louis Lamy, Monique Mulligan & Brad Brook, & Frances Debeuckelaere and many nieces and nephews & cousins & friends and Family.
