Leopold Joseph Roussin passed away on July 2, 2025 at the Ste. Rose General Hospital at the age of 92 years and 8 months.
Leopold was born on October 16, 1932 in Ste. Amelie, Manitoba to Alexandre and Alexandrine (nee Landry) Roussin. Leopold was raised in Ste. Amelie and attended St. Vincent de Paul school until Grade 9. Leopold’s father passed away in 1938 when he was only 6 years old. He was raised by his mother, Alexandrine, until he left home at the age of 16 to work for the Finney’s. He then went to work in Rivers, MB for a short time. When he returned home, he met the love of his life, Imelda Moriaux, and they were married on August 30, 1958.
In the fall after they were married, he left to go to work up north at Pitt Siding where he worked on the hydro dam. When he returned, he purchased the land where he lived and farmed for the remainder of his life.
After their first child was born and passed away shortly after birth in 1959, they were able to move on to the farm he had purchased. After their second child, Ronald, was born in 1961, they moved to Meadow Portage where Leopold worked for Joe Jeannotte as a farm laborer. While living there, their first daughter, Stella, was born in 1962. A little over a year later they returned to their farm.
Their second daughter was born in 1967 and passed away shortly after birth as well. Later in 1969-70, Leopold was given the opportunity to complete his education and graduated with a GED diploma and honors in his Math course. Then in 1973, their third daughter, Rachelle, was born and their third son, Lucien, was born in 1974. Leopold’s family was very important to him and always tried to make time from the farm and work to travel and go camping whenever possible with them.
Leopold started driving school bus in 1971 and retired in 1998 after having driven kids from Eddystone, Ste. Amelie and area for 27 years while still working on the farm. The farm was not only his livelihood but his passion as he continued to work on the farm up until the last couple years before his passing and also still lived on the farm until he had to be hospitalized.
Throughout his life he also held many other positions in the communities of Ste. Amelie and Ste. Rose as Ste. Amelie Parish committee member, 4-H Leader and President of MB 4-H, Ste. Amelie Hall Committee member and executive, Ste. Rose R.M. Councillor, Watershed Committee member, Library Committee member, Ambulance Board Chairman, he also started the Turtle River School Division Bus driver Union and held the President position for many years. Even though he was involved in all these committees etc. Leopold always had time to help any member of his community or
family in any way he could. Leopold was an outgoing person and enjoyed traveling and meeting new people. He would talk to anyone whether he was a stranger or his next door neighbor.
Leopold leaves behind his loving wife, Imelda; his four children, Ronald (Maggie); Stella (Raymond); Rachelle; Lucien (Stephanie); his siblings Napoleon and Blandine; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
He was predeceased by his parents Alexandre and Alexandrine Roussin; his brother, Ovila; his son, Pierre; his daughter, Mary; his granddaughter, Maeghan Bramley and his grandson, Patrick Roussin.
Thank you to all his friends and relatives for the support shown to his family during is hospitalization and after his passing.
We Love and Miss You Husband, Dad, Pepere and Grand-Pepere.
