Lena Burla Obituary

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Lena Burla (nee Antoniuk) of Dauphin, Manitoba at the age of 89 years on November 3, 2024. Lena was born April 27, 1935 in Meadowlands, Manitoba to Theodore (Fred) and Mary Antoniuk (nee Lapawchuk).
Lena and Peter started their life on a farm in Ethelbert, Manitoba. She also worked alongside her husband trucking for many years driving a 3 ton truck hauling freight from Dauphin to Pine River and surrounding towns. During this time she also planted a huge garden every year and canned tons of fruit and vegetables.
In 1954 they decided to move from the farm and live in Pine River, Manitoba. It was there that Lena was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church for many years. She loved cooking many Ukrainian dishes and was famous for her chiffon cakes. She always helped for weddings, showers etc. and was always asked to bake her cakes.
She also took part in looking after the Fletcher Cemetery for many years, cutting the grass and placing flowers on the graves. She took great pride in making it look perfect for families that visited their loved ones. Not only did she look after the cemetery, she also cut grass on 4 lots in Pine River. She worked very hard to maintain a nice yard and put many miles on the lawn mower! Then in 2003 she and Peter decided to move to Dauphin, MB where they have since resided.
Lena travelled a little, once to Niagara Falls in 1959 when Peter purchased a new truck from the Oshawa factory and also took two trips to Kelowna, British Columba once by train and once by plane.
It was there, in Kelowna where her pride and joy was, her grandson Kody Iverson. She loved hearing from him. She was very proud of the young many he became.
Lena is survived by her loving husband Peter; son Barry Burla of Dauphin, MB; daughter Bonnie (Dave Tulloch) Iverson of Kelowna, BC; grandson Kody Iverson of Kelowna, BC and sister Ann Kostiuk of Winnipegosis, MB.
She is predeceased by her six brothers Steve, Peter, Marvin, Frank, Mike and Jack along with two sisters Jean and Rosie.

A Funeral Service will be held for Lena on Saturday, November 9, 2024 at 10:00 am from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev Father Ivan Hnativ officiating.
