Kay (Bzowy) Chiupka

In loving memory of Kay Chiupka, age 94 Years.  Born in the RM of Lawrence, Manitoba, on September August 25, 1928, died in Dauphin, Manitoba, on May 4, 2023.

Kay Chiupka passed away peacefully, at the St Paul’s Care Home with family by her side.
Kay was born in the RM of Lawrence, and was the youngest of 4 children.  Her parents were John and Annie Bzowy (nee Woliski).  Brothers and sisters included: Lena, Mary, and Mike.  Kay was raised on her father’s farm in the Rorketon area where she also attended Vedenia school.

In June of 1947, Kay married Anthony Chiupka, and joined him with his fishing operation in northern Manitoba, as cook.  After a few years, Anthony and Kay moved to their farming operation in the Rorketon area and raised their family.  They farmed until the year 2000, after which they retired to Dauphin, Manitoba. 

Kay was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection, in Dauphin.  She loved to sing and was an active singer in the Ukrainian Church Choir.

Kay loved sports. In her early years she played softball.

Kay was blessed with 6 children, and leaves to mourn; Judy Mergel, Carol Slobodzian (Peter), Joseph Chiupka, Wayne Chiupka (Linda), Raymond Chiupka, and Patricia Lamy.

Grandchildren include: Laurie Hansen, Robert Mergel (Ashlyn), Ryan Slobodzian, Crystal Slobodzian, Cerrie Slobodzian, Patrick Slobodzian, Brigg Slobodzian, Danielle Chiupka, Caitlin Chiupka, Jonathan Chiupka (Suzanne), Caitlin Claggett-Woods (Brett), Ramona Chiupka, Rory Chiupka, and Angela Lamy.  There are a number of great grandchildren, as well.

Memorial donations in Kay’s name are welcome at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection, 801 Jackson St., Dauphin, Manitoba R7N 2N3.

Funeral Liturgy was held on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at 10:30 am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, MB with Very Rev Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating.  Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.  Pallbearers were Jonathan Chiupka, Robert Mergel, Brigg Slobodzian, Angela Lamy, Rory Chiupka, & Wayne Chiupka
