It is with great sadness, the family of Katherine Lysak announces her passing in Dauphin, Manitoba on June 12, 2025 at the age of 101 years.
Kay was born April 13, 1924 to William and Mary (nee Kushnir) Kawka at Stoney Beach, Saskatchewan and grew up in Regina. After training to be a stenographer, she obtained a position with the recruiting office for the Royal Canadian Army where she met her husband of 65 years, John Lysak. Kay and John began their family in Regina with Bev and Barb. After a few moves to Theodore and Moosomin, they finally settled in Dauphin where they completed their family with the arrival of their third daughter, Connie.
Kay was involved for many years with the Dauphin Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star and the Dauphin Figure Skating Club. She enjoyed curling, gardening and, especially feeding her family! Kay and John had an open door to all visitors.
Kay was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, William and Mary Kawka of Regina; sister, Stella Krezanski of Gimli; brothers, Tony Kawka of Winnipeg and Frank Kawka of Regina; and son-in-law, Rick Zaplitny of Dauphin.
Kay will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her three daughters, Bev Zaplitny, Barb (Jerry) Mrozowich, and Connie (Bill) Neilipovitz; grandchildren, Chris (Kathy) Zaplitny, Paula (Richard) Zaplitny-Woolcock; Dean (Trish) Mrozowich, Dawn (Karl) Sproll; Jonathan Neilipovitz (Bernadett Kovacs) and Benjamin Neilipovitz (Sydney Haskins); great-grandchildren, Rylan and Caden, Annabelle and Elisabeth, Will and Henry.
