Katherine Marie Inkster (nee Brunen)

Katherine was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1944 to Gertrude Brunen. She was adopted and raised by Gertie's mother, Susanna Brunen. As a child, Kathy moved with her family to Magnet, Manitoba. This is where she started school. A few years later, the family moved to Ste Rose du Lac and Katherine continued her schooling here until she finished grade 11 and registered at St. Boniface School of Practical Nursing in Winnipeg. She received her diploma as a Licensed Practical Nurse in February 1964 and started her first nursing job in Ste Rose Hospital.

Shortly after this, she met and fell in love with Barry Inkster. The two were married in Ste Rose du Lac on November 5, 1966. They started their married life together on the Inkster farm east of Rorketon. They soon moved to Lynn Lake, Manitoba, where Kathy worked as a nurse. They later moved to Snow Lake, Manitoba but after a few weeks moved back to Rorketon because of a family emergency.  While Barry helped his father on the family farm, Katherine worked at Ste Rose Hospital until her retirement in 1994, after 30 years of nursing.

Kathy had many pastimes over the years, including gardening, 4-H leader, sewing and canning, but her favorites were crocheting and cooking. She loved to cook up a meal when family or friends came over. Her love of cooking was also evident in her collection of about 300 cookbooks.  She loved crocheting, especially afghans. The joke always was that she often struggled to stay awake once it was big enough to cover her legs. At that point they were so cozy, she would often nod off with her legs toasty warm under the afghan and the crochet hook still in her hand.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of 52 years, Barry; her son Wayne and his partner Darrell; her sisters, Teresa Smigelski (Peter) and Anna Paradis; brothers-in-law, Bob Jamieson, Herb Montgomery and Raymond Inkster (Margaret); and sister-in-law, Hazel Brunen; many nieces and nephews and extended family, including a special niece, Helen Sweetman and two close cousins, Caroline Altman and Mike Poppel in Saskatchewan.

Prayers were offered on Friday, September 6, 2019 at 7:00 pm in the Sneath-Strilchuk – Ste. Rose Chapel.  Funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday, September 7, 2019 at 1:00 pm in the Lawrence Community Complex, Rorketon, MB.  Fr. Jorge Mante celebrated the mass with interment following in the Ridgeway Cemetery.
