Karen Green Obituary

With profound sadness we wish to announce the passing of Karen Ann Green (Morrison) of Gilbert Plains on Saturday March 15, 2025.

Mom was born December 10, 1936 in Hazelton B.C. to George and Irene Morrison. During her younger years Mom would live in various communities before her family settled at the old Balmertown, Ontario. At the age of 16 Mom traveled to Vancouver to spend 18 months with her maternal grandmother. While there, Mom went to secretarial school. Upon her return she gained employment at Campbell Mines. Mom first met Dad when she was 15 and they rekindled their affection for each other which lead to their marriage November 2, 1957. Mom always said that Dad was the love of her life but the bane of her existence. In 1968 we moved to Lynn Lake, MB then in 1971 to Thompson, MB, and in 1996 Mom and Dad retired to Gilbert Plains, MB. Through the time spent in Lynn Lake and Thompson she was employed for the department then called Indian Affairs. She was known and loved by many of the First Nations People she helped throughout Northern Manitoba. Mom was a staunch believer in giving back - she strongly supported many organizations - The Shriner Hospital, Shalome Mission, HSC, Foster Children in Africa, Help Lesotho to name just a few. Many have called her feisty and adventurous. She travelled to Vancouver from Red Lake in a VW bug with her youngest sister and their 5 children in the early 60’s. She jumped out of a perfectly good airplane when she was 78.

Mom leaves to keep her memories alive, Daughters - Joy (Percy) and Tracy (Doug), Grandchildren - Brent (Megan), Kathy (Evan), Kaytlyn (Dustin), Breann (Lance), and 10 great Grandchildren. Her sister Trudy and her brother Arthur(Brenda), many nieces, nephews, friends and extended family.

She was left to keep the memories and stories alive with the passing of her husband William, parents George and Irene, sister Wendy, nephew Randy, niece Dana, in-laws George and Lerra, brother in-laws Robert and Jack and sister in-laws Velma and Betty.

Mom’s celebration of life took place at the Gilbert Plains United Church, Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 1:00pm, with a come and go at the Gilbert Plains Legion.
