Joseph Marzyk Obituary

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Joe Marzyk of Dauphin, Manitoba on January 16, 2020 at the age of 89 years.
Joe was in born in Poland on July 23, 1930 to Jozef and Mary Marzyk. Joe with his parents set sale to Canada in 1935 at the young age of five. They first settled in Dauphin, MB and Joe attended school here till grade six. They moved to Ontario and then to Morden, MB. It is here in Morden that he met the love of his life, Lydia Loutchan. They married on October 24, 1953 in Darlingford, MB.
In 1954 they started their family with the arrival of their first and only daughter Marlene, followed by their three sons Jim, Ron and Tony. They continued to farm in Darlingford until 1960 when they moved to Valley River, MB.
Joe was a hard worker and an entrepreneur. He built a successful and prosperous farm along with his family. He had a very strong work ethic but also understood the importance of play and fun. Joe was a very adventurous man and made the most of what the world had to offer. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to travel and this curiosity took him to many places including Mexico, Hawaii and every state in the US. The Rockies were one of his and Lydia’s favorite places to visit. Joe could often be found on the side of the road digging up plants and trees for Lydia to take home.
Joe’s love of family was his passion in life. Taking his family to the lake skiing, fishing and camping was a weekly ritual in the summer as long as the chores got done first; he was the most exciting grandpa a child could ask for. Teaching us to fish and trap, taking us on trips just to name a few  but it was his curiosity of how things worked that made our visits extra interesting.  This curiosity often got him in trouble along with the side kick he had with him. Next to family, Joe’s passion in life was farming. Together with his wife and children they built the family farm consisting of grain and almost every farm animal possibly known. In his eyes John Deere was the only choice in farming equipment. So much that his grandson Gavin, had to be corrected in kindergarten that the color green was not actually called John Deere.
Joe took pride in everything he did. Joe and Lydia even won an award of Merit from the Horticultural Association for Best Kept Farm Home Grounds in 1971. He was the first farmer in the area to harvest Sweet Clover. He was even interviewed on TV for his success of the crop. Something the family can be proud of for years to come.
Joe was predeceased by his wife, Lydia (Loutchen); daughter, Marlene (Bernat); sons, Tony and Ron Marzyk; his parents, Jozef and Mary Marzyk; parent’s in-law, Walter and Mary Loutchen.
Left to cherish fond memories, is his son, Jim (Mary) Marzyk; son-in-law, Bob Bernat; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Marzyk; brother-in-law, Eddie (Ruth) Loutchan; grandchildren, Tammy Koshowski (Scott Whitmore), Kevin (Tammy) Bernat, Gavin Bernat (Janie Inkster), Ryan Marzyk (Jenna Schellar), Rylie (Laurel) Marzyk, Ryder (Meaghan) Marzyk; great grandchildren, Tanyon and Jesse Koshowski, Taylor and Delaney Bernat, Charley Inkster, Ryland and Ava Marzyk, Baylee and Brooke Marzyk, Mason and Bria Marzyk; along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at the Personal Care Home for Joe’s care over the past years.  A very special thank you to Laurel Marzyk for her extra compassion, dedication and knowledge in his care.
