Our families path changed forever when our John fell asleep with the Lord as part of his journey to eternal rest on January 12, 2024 at Dauphin General Hospital.
John began his first journey 67 years ago on July 7th, born to William and Mary Stadnyk (Semchych) of Petlura. He was the favourite to his siblings Waldymir, Sylvia, Joyce and Russell until along came Willy. John attended Pozir School until life’s journey brought him back to the farm.
He married his Shortdale sweetheart Lucy Panasiuk on October 18, 1975. Soon after, John and Lucy welcomed their daughter Elizabeth and son Michael into their family. As his journey continued, John had a great love for horses and the wood business which began with skidding wood in the Duck Mountains and included coffee shop stops at the post office with his neighbours and friends.
Bud and Brook were John’s favourite team and a special part of his life as he raised them from colts, breaking them in himself. You had to be there to appreciate the love that John had for that team as they were able to take both his son and daughter to their weddings.
The horses took John down many roads whether it was a funeral for the neighbour, a visit through McDonald’s drive while caroling, pulling the canon at the Ukrainian Festival, shuttling folks at CountryFest, family sleigh rides or parades.
When a tree came down on John, this did not stop him but changed the course of his journey. The horses were retired to pasture to play ever after and his firewood business evolved through different equipment along with Mike and Austin at his side.
Some of the most memorable moments of John’s journey was the time with family whether it was breakfast on the boat, fish shack and campsite meals, or watching dance, baseball and hockey games.
John was predeceased by his granddaughter Kalyn Faith, his brothers Waldymir and Russell, his parents Bill and Mary Stadnyk as well as other extended family.
Left to cherish special memories forever are Lucy, Elizabeth and husband Conway, Stratten, Thor and Drake as well as Mike and wife Jenn, Austin, Haylee and Mireya along with sisters Sylvia and Joyce, brother Willy, brothers in law John, Mike and partner Mike, sisters in law Stella, Nellie and Kirby, Sylvia and Garth, his godchildren, plus numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Now as John begins this journey, he picks up his reigns and leads his team of horses along the paths his loved ones take, to watch over them and guide them.
John’s journey will forever continue in our hearts.
A Funeral Service will be held for John on Monday, January 22, 2024 at 10:30 am from the Grandview Kinsmen Community Center in Grandview with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.
Should friends so desire, donations in memory of John may be made to a charity of one's choice.
