John Holownia, March 26, 1933 – July 11, 2025 (92 years)
John passed away peacefully at the Dauphin General Hospital in the palliative care unit, surrounded by his family.
John was born March 26, 1933 to Stanley and Sophie Holownia, who came to Canada from Poland in 1928 and settled in the Keld area. He grew up with four sisters and attended the Lemberg school. In 1951 his family moved to the farm that John would eventually take over in the RM of Gilbert Plains. Before he settled down, he worked many jobs in Manitoba and Saskatchewan including the CPR, CN, and Swift Canadian Meat Packers. In 1959 he met his wife Evelyn Danyluk, and they married in 1960. They raised three children together, and continued to farm until 1999, when they retired in Dauphin, Manitoba.
John was active in his community and was an active member of the St Viator’s Roman Catholic church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus. John will be remembered for his friendly and outgoing personality, his generosity and his love and devotion to his family. Nothing made him smile more than a visit or a phone call with one of his sisters, his kids or grandchildren.
John will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years Evelyn, their three children Darlene (Cliff) Crozier, Terry (Terri-Lynn) Holownia, and Randy (Jo-Anne) Holownia, grandchildren Kallie (Kory) Graw, Clayton (Taylor) Crozier, Kyle Holownia, Megan Holownia, Sam (Kassie) Holownia, Mallory (Dylan) Holownia, Ryan Bernstrom and Janelle Bernstrom and three great-grandchildren, Kade Graw, Ari Graw and Luka Laliberte. He is also survived by his sisters Lillian (Ignace) Kulczycki, Vicky (Ernie) Danyluk, and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Stanley and Sophie Holownia, sister Mary Bosiak, brother-in-law John Bosiak, sister Hedy Podworny and brother-in-law Mike Podworny and sister Frances Holownia.
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at the St. Paul’s Care Home in Dauphin, Manitoba. We would also like to thank the Dauphin General Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their compassion, Father Oleg and Father Chris for their blessings.
