John Brook Obituary

John Emerson Brook

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Emerson Brook, who died on August 29, 2025, at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose, Manitoba, at the age of 87.

John was born on September 6, 1937, in Ochre River, Manitoba, to Herbert Brook and Clementine Lebel. On November 26, 1957, he married the love of his life, Juliette Landry, in Ste. Amélie, and together they built a life filled with hard work, deep love, and quiet joy.

John and Julie spent their years together farming side by side. A passion for horses led them to racing at local events and eventually at Assiniboia Downs. Later, they transitioned into raising purebred Gelbvieh and commercial cattle. During this time, they enjoyed many memorable trips to Agribition. In their later farming years, they shifted their focus to grain farming. The farm was always a hub of activity—grandchildren could often be seen running about, and family gatherings frequently took place around the kitchen table. John remained active on the farm until his retirement in 2010, after which he and Julie embraced a new chapter of life together.

In retirement, John and Julie spent winters in Florida, Brandon, Texas, and British Columbia, and found new passions in golf and bowling. They were both spirited competitors, and John proudly competed in numerous Manitoba Senior Games, bringing home medals. On the golf course, he achieved the elusive golfer’s dream—multiple holes-in-one—a testament to his consistency and determination.

Though a man of few words, John had a twinkle in his eye and mischievous smirk for those who knew and loved him.

John is survived by his wife Juliette Brook. His children Lyle, Karen(Rick),daughter in law Odile, Brad (Monique), Jason (Shauna). John has 11 grandchildren and 14 great grand children. He is survived by his siblings Irene, Norman (Diana), Maxwell (Pat), Mylles (Gail).

He is predeceased by his son Grant (June 14, 2019)  and siblings George (Peggy), Shirley (Florence), Mable (Orville Law), Vera (Gilbert Mailman), Godfrey (Norma), Ellen (Paul Murphy), Louis, Ivan (Gayle), brother in law Yvon Quirion.

After meeting the love of his life at a dance, he spent 66 wonderful years sharing countless dances by her side. They were inseparable throughout life, and his memory will forever remain in our hearts.

Rest easy, Grandpa. You were one of a kind.

A private family service will be held on September 14th at 1:00 pm in the Ste Amelie Cemetery

Should friends so desire, please consider remembering John with a donation to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home, Box 420, Ste. Rose du Lac, MB, R0L 1S0.
