Joan Maguet Obituary

Joan Valdina Maguet (nee Johnson) was born to Kjartan and Valdina Johnson in Arborg, Manitoba on October 30th, 1952.  She passed away at the Brandon Regional Health Centre on October 16th at age 67.  Joan grew up in Arborg, Manitoba on the family farm with her twin sister June, brother Alvin, sister Carolin, and many cousins.

June and Joan were instrumental in building the family business, Johnson & Sons Arborg Ltd., along with their Dad.  During the 1970's, the girls developed the fashion side of the business and worked tirelessly throughout university to build the store into a destination that attracted customers from across Manitoba.  Joan graduated from the University of Manitoba in 1973 with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

In 1977, she married Andre Maguet and joined the Ste. Rose du Lac community.  They had their first child, Justin, in 1979, followed by Eric in 1982, and Brittany in 1985.  Joan dedicated her life to raising her children and working on the family farm.  In the early years, she often prepared and delivered meals to the fields with all of the farm children in tow.  Joan spent countless hours at skating rinks as these children began playing hockey, volunteering and cheering on her sons and nephews.

In 1991, Joan became a partner as her family opened Johnson's in Gimli.  Joan loved spending time in the store with her parents, sisters, nieces, and nephews.  She enjoyed buying trips to Edmonton, Saskatoon, and Winnipeg over the years, as well as treasured trips to Hawaii, Europe, and Mexico.

Joan was an avid crafter and created many beautiful cross-stitch and paper-tole pictures, both for her home and as gifts.  She loved to cook and bake, and took great pleasure in making everyone their favorite meals on special occasions, or just because.

Joan became an Amma for the first time in 2005, and was blessed with eight grandchildren over the next thirteen years.  She loved to be surrounded by her grandchildren as much as possible, and took a special joy in rocking them to sleep.

Joan was predeceased by her father Kjartan Johnson.  She will be dearly missed by her husband Andre Maguet, son Justin Maguet and daughter-in-law Jamie Slobodzian, son and daughter-in -law Eric and Carolyn Maguet, daughter Brittany Maguet and son-in-law Zachary Jordan.  Her mother Valdina Johnson, twin sister June and brother-in-law Ken Kristofferson, brother Alvin Johnson, sister Carolin and brother-in-law Rob Magnusson.  Brother-in-laws and sister-in-laws Jean-Louis and Roxanne Maguet and Lucien and Theresa Maguet.  Her treasured grandchildren Alexandria and Remington Jordan, Jemma and Juliet Maguet, and Veronica, Anson, Cecelia, and Nolan Maguet along with many nieces and nephews, great-neices and nephews, and cousins and extended family.

Joan will always be remembered as a beautiful, kind, and driven person.  She was a hardworking farmer, a caring sister, devoted daughter,  loving wife, giving mother, and selfless Amma.

The  Private Funeral Service will be rescheduled due to new Covid-19 restrictions for the Province.
