Jessie Boreyko Obituary

Jessie (Ustina) Boreyko, age 96, of Dauphin, Manitoba, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 17, 2018.   Jessie was born on March 24, 1921 on a farm in the Sifton area to Andriy and Effie Schesniuk.  Jessie married Dmytro Boreyko in the Sifton/Fishing River area.  Together they had 2 children, the late Ron Boreyko (Florence), and Adeline (Ed) Smaluk.  Jessie was predeceased by her husband Dmytro, her son Ron, her sisters Passy Yaschyshyn , Lena Stanicky, Anne Sirdasychny, Katherine Chura, Mary Ciz, and brother Alex Schesniuk.  Left to remember Jessie are her daughter Adeline, (Ed) Smaluk, and daughter-in-law Florence Boreyko (Walter Yaschyshyn),  her grandchildren Jennifer (Mike) Stackhouse, Amy (Ryan) Duthie, Ian (Laura) Boreyko, and Stuart (Jill) Boreyko, her great-grandchildren Matthew, Mallory, and Macey Stackhouse, Reese and Grady Duthie, Hannah and Iris Boreyko, and Jesse, Carson, and Harlan Boreyko.  She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
In her early years, Jessie worked hard on the farm, and raising her children.  They moved to town in 1975, and she kept busy with her huge garden, her beautiful flower gardens, and keeping her children’s and grandchildren’s freezers full of delicious baking and dozens upon dozens of perogies and cabbage rolls.  She took pride in teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to bake and cook like she did, and they loved learning from her wisdom and experience.  Jessie liked to sew, and made numerous quilts, which she gave to all of her family, and will be treasured forever. Jessie loved reading books, and receiving letters and photos in the mail from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a special drawer in the kitchen where she kept treats for her “kiddies” whenever they visited.
Jessie had an unwavering faith in God.  She was a dedicated member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection.  She prayed her rosary both morning and night, and always kept those she loved in her prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Preservation Committee for the Historic Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dauphin, or to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB).
