Jean Saboraki Obituary

Jean Isobel Saboraki (nee Metson) passed away peacefully January 6, 2022 at the St. Paul's PCH in Dauphin, MB.

Jean was born on August 20, 1929, daughter of Harry Allen and Jessie McLeod (Warner) Metson in Neudorf, SK.

Jean's father was employed with the Canadian Pacific Railway.  Consequently, they moved a number of times.  From Neudorf, SK they moved to Souris, MB, Portage la Prairie, MB, Swift Current, SK, and then to Outlook, SK.  After graduating from school Jean returned to Swift Current where she worked in a law office.  She met and married Joseph Saboraki on June 6, 1953 and they moved to Brandon, MB where she took a job at Brown Steel.  Their son Scott Whitney was born October 1959.  A few years later, Joseph received a promotion within the Post Office and moved to Dryden, ON where their daughter Carol Elaine was born March 1965.  Several promotions with moves followed; The Pas, Flin Flon and finally Dauphin.

Jean enjoyed bowling, curling, cross country skiing, golf, birding and gardening.  She was an active member in the Dauphin First United Church.  She enjoyed many handicrafts and the making of Prayer Shawls for many years.

Jean and some of her school friends from Outlook formed a group called the Lea Girls.  Committed to staying in touch after school they started a Robin chain letter in 1952 that continued until about 2018 ( roughly 66 years).

Jean is predeceased by her mother in 1940, father in 1987, brother Arnold in 2001, husband Joe in 2005, and brother Kenneth in 2017.  Jean was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, and a great friend to many.

She is survived by her son Scott and daughter-in-law Theresa of La Broquerie, MB, daughter Carol and son-in-law Kevin Podbisky of Prince George, BC, grandchildren: Michelle, Kelsey, Curtis, and Shawna,  She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed.

A family graveside service will be held at a future date in the Dauphin Veteran's section of the Riverside Cemetery.
