Jean Roger Mignon of McCreary, Manitoba passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 9th, 2021 at the age of 80 years. Jean was born on March 14th, 1940 in Ste. Rose du Lac to his parents, Rene and Yvonne (Pennarun) Mignon, and grew up on the family farm with his brothers and sisters, Marie, Lucien, Claudette, and Noel. Jean took over the family farm and in 1963, married his wife, Angele Desrosiers. Jean and Angele continued life on the farm until their two children, Michel and Colette, arrived in 1976 and 1980 respectively.
Jean lived a modest lifestyle while raising his family and tending to the farm life, even managing to stay afloat through the BSE crisis in the early 2000’s. One of Jean’s earlier hobbies on the farm was raising thoroughbred horses, which occasionally landed him in the winner’s circle at Assiniboia Downs. Jean also enjoyed playing music in his early life, but the complications associated with severe arthritis prevented this pass time to continue. Jean had a humble generosity about him, from lending farm equipment or help when his neighbours were in need, to buying a round at the Legion when the right people were there.
In 1998 Jean became a grandfather when Kayla entered the world, then again with Gabriel in 2013 and with Brody in 2015, all of which would light up his face. In 2013, Jean’s health deteriorated to the point where he had to move off the family farm and to the Alpine Manor in McCreary. There he developed a social circle and could either be found at home or the Legion depending on the time.
Throughout Jean’s time in McCreary, he made sure that the staff at the Legion were “kept on their toes” as he put it. Jean’s last move took place in 2017 where he had to move to the McCreary PCH for the extra care he needed.
Jean was predeceased by his parents Rene Mignon and Yvonne Pennarun, and brothers Lucien and Noel, and his wife Angele.
He is survived by both his children, Michel (Tammy) and Colette (David), as well as several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff at the McCreary PCH for their dedication, compassion, and hard work caring for Jean through these difficult times.
In accordance with Jean's wishes, cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held in the Laurier RC Cemetery, Laurier, MB at a future date. Should friends so desire, donations may be made in memory of Jean to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
Rest easy, dad… we have it from here.
