After a fulfilling life, Jean King passed away peacefully at the age of 97 on Thursday, March 6 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home with her daughters at her side. Jean was born in Duluth, Minnesota on March 19, 1927, daughter of Alvie and Olive McNaughton. She attended school at Dauphin Plains Public School and finished at Dauphin High School. Upon her graduation she worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to William McKenzie King on May 24, 1948. They made their home in Dauphin where all five of their daughters were born and raised. Jean was a wonderful seamstress, always outfitting her girls; she even made her daughter’s wedding dresses. Her petite point, cross stitch and decoupage pictures are proudly displayed in her daughter’s homes. She knit many beautiful sweaters and jackets for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Everyone in the family was always thrilled to receive a knitted hat, scarf, pair of mitts or socks from her. Mom’s other passion was their cottage at Ochre Beach. Jean and Bill had many enjoyable years with their children fishing, boating and fun family gatherings. It meant a lot to her when the family was together.
Jean’s memory will be cherished by her daughters Dawn (Bob) Gardner of Dauphin, Wendy (Bruce) Stokotelny of Dauphin, Patti Fox (Pete Wiwcharuk) of Ashern and Wileen (John) Mauricio of Winnipeg; grandchildren Brendan (Lenora), Ryan (Sheri), Jennifer (Warren), Jeremy (Carlanna), Johnathon (Kelly), Justin, Travis (Jennifer), Tara, Blair (Shannon), and Mason (Sarah); 16 great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; and, one sister Diane Koss of Winnipeg. She also has numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. Jean was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), grandson Jerret Gardner, daughter Betty Morrison, and brothers Keith, Roy and Doug McNaughton.
Rest in Peace Mom. You will be greatly missed, never forgotten and in our hearts forever.
