Born to parents Alexander and Katherine Sadoway Nykolaishen in Gilbert Plains Manitoba in a small rural Ukrainian Catholic farming community.
She was one of six children, she was pre deceased by her brothers Sam, Mike, John, Peter and sister Helen.
She always knew and always has been an educator. She worked her way through university where she obtained a BA in English, then an a MA in library science in education.
She worked in a one room school house and in libraries until she found her place and home in Edmonton Alberta where she got a job at NAIT university in English studies. While there she met her husband Sorab Rustom Cyrus who was also an educator there. They were soon married on Aug. 11, 1973. The couple loved travelling, being with friends , golfing and becoming snowbirds after retirement. Jean did not slow down after retirement she still continued to take classes at the university and became a published author to 3 books. Prairie Dreams, Stepping through Time and Continuing stepping through time. 3 Memoirs about her life. Although her and Sorab did not have any children of their own they had an extended family that meant a lot to her and she cherished spending time with her family and many friends.
