James 'JK' Korman Obituary

Dymitro (James) Fred Korman age 83 of Crocus Court, Roblin, MB passed away peacefully on March 28, 2024.

JK was born on April 13, 1940 to Edna (Chopiak) and Michael Korman in RM of Shell River. He was the second youngest of five children.

After graduating from Red River College in Winnipeg, MB he barbered for more than 40 years. After retiring at 65 he continued to make house calls and attend to those in Crocus Court and help out Wanda at her shop until age 75. Before setting up shop in Roblin in 1973, he worked in The Pas, Thompson, and Dauphin, MB.

JK was an avid golfer and enjoyed spending time with his friends. He also enjoyed fishing both on the open waters and in the cold winter days with the boys (Mervin, Kenny, Paul, and Rusell) at the cabin almost every weekend. JK was community-minded and volunteered his time coaching both youth softball and hockey.

JK and Geraldine married April 15, 2000. They spent many weekends exploring the countryside and reminiscing of their childhood days. The trips expanded to places as far away as Alaska. Thousands of miles and lots of worn tires later, they still had more places they wanted to go to together. In March, 2021, JK moved into his “apartment” at Crocus Court. Geraldine continued to take JK on mini road trips in the municipality and for lunches and ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Ronellenfitch; sister Erma (Orest Chick) of Sarnia, ON; brother Larry (Pat) of Brandon, MB; and sister Marge Rospad of Winnipeg, MB.

He is predeceased by his parents, Edna and Michael Korman, sister Ruth and brother-In-law Fred Yakimishin, and brother-in-law Joe Rospad.

A memorial service was held at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Home-Roblin Chapel on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 1:30 pm. Donations in honour of JK can be made to Roblin District Community Foundation - Crocus Court Fund.
