On November 10th, 2025, James Krichkowski peacefully passed away on the Family Farm at the age of 91 years.
(Metro) James Krichkowski was born on August 24th, 1934, to Nicholas and Dora Krichkowski on a small homestead farm in Shell Valley. He was the third of four children. At the age of seven, he moved to another farm in the Bluewing area where he attended school. In his early twenties, after spending two winters, he decided to return home from Toronto to help his ill father. He was an avid lover of the outdoors, enjoying trapping, hunting and fishing. His main passion was farming.
After receiving the farm from his parents, he met the love of his life (Natalia) Ethel Storozuk, who lived a few miles away. In June 1959, they were married. The couple expanded the farm with land and their three children: Valerie, Barry and Timothy. As a farmer, James was a hard worker and spent time with his cattle, all that he knew by name. He loved his hobby of trout farming which was a strong passion of his with his partner Gary Zimmer. He taught his children, Sunday was church day. James instilled in his children the values and morals of life.
After farming for over 50 years, James retired. He sold all his machinery to discourage himself from further farming. In exchange, he found a new quest: to catch as many master anglers as he could. He reached master angler gold with many specialty badges. He was known to be driving his truck with his boat attached, sometimes as much as four times a week. If you would stop him on the streets, he would be more than happy to give you a fishing report. James and his wife would see fishing as a competition and would see who would get the biggest fish. He took pleasure in cutting his grass in his yard to keep everything tidy. He also enjoyed looking out for the renters cattle and fixing the fences when needed. James had a big heart and was willing to always lend a hand if he was able.
James was predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Dora Krichkowski, his siblings Peter, Doreen and Sandy, his son Timothy Krichkowski, and granddaughter Amber Ashcroft. He will be gravely missed by his spouse of 66 years, Ethel Krichkowski, his surviving children Valerie Ashcroft (Bob) and Barry Krichkowski (Brenda), surviving grandchildren: Tyler Ashcroft (Kristy), Lynnsey Krichkowski, Kaylynn Krichkowski and Jared Krichkowski, and great grandchildren: Samantha, Lilyanna, Celia and Hunter.
If you ever talked to him, he always had time for you, tell you a joke or an interesting story over a cup of coffee or a 3-piece chicken dinner at Chicken Chef, because according to him “they have good chicken”. James lived his life according to his values and passion: Jesus, family, fishing and farming.
A Funeral Service was held for James on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm from the Roblin Evangelical Mission Church in Roblin with Pastor Randy Moffit officiating.
Interment followed in the Roblin District Cemetery.
This service will be live streamed for those who cannot attend.
