John Barrymoore Cords - known to most as Jack, was born on his mother's birthday, in Grandview on July 27, 1936, and he passed away in Dauphin on September 24, 2025.
Jack was born and raised on the same quarter of land that he lived on all his life. He was the youngest of seven children and attended Halton school, right across the road from home, where he made many friends. School time in those days was short lived, his father passed away when he was young which meant the family farm needed his help. Education was learnt from his siblings and through hands on work experience. He spent his entire life on that farm working the land, scrubbing, picking stones and roots, raising livestock, stooking and threshing and building it up as best that he could. He met and married Evelyn Needham in 1961 and from that union came children Debbie and Lisa which were eventually followed by some grandchildren: Johnathan, Bailey & Tanner and then some great grandchildren: Richard and Lielle. A lifetime of hard work alongside his brother Fred and a little bit of play resulted in a good content life which fulfilled him. Living in Pleasant Valley gave him many relatives, lifelong friends and a lot of good neighbors. The door was always open with a rum bottle on the table and help would be given in what ways that he could when needed to all. A particular attitude resulted in immaculately clean vehicles and equipment with all his possessions being very well cared for. Attending auction sales and visiting at those resulted in going to different towns and being known by numerous people and also some unneeded purchases being made. Camping took place every season for many years with a lot of fun, laughter and memories being made and the winters were for snowmobiling all over the country. Music was always involved; he wished that he could play a fiddle but decided the radio was what he played the best. Stacks of records were listened to at nighttime and learning to dance happened in the kitchen listening to Saturday night get together or Polka party. Bum darts, quad and wagon rides, trips to Austin's Thresherman’s Reunion and The Pas Trapper's Festival provided laughter, excitement and memories. Later years brought driving around the countryside and checking on the farming progress, sitting on the deck, listening to bargain bin, eating chocolate and quadding up and down the fields, which he was able to do 2 days prior to his passing.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Evelyn. Children Debbie (Sean) Ishmael and Lisa (Tom) White; grandchildren Johnathan and Nadia Laporte, Bailey White and Adam Cruickshank, Tanner White and Megan Jubenvill; great grandchildren Richard and Lielle Laporte; faithful companion and pet dog Misty Cords; in-laws Howard & Paulette Needham, Larry & Vivian Needham, Don and Donna Needham; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents William and Clara Cords; all of his siblings and their spouses Charlie & Effie Cords, Alma Keen, Fred Cords, Ron & Jean Cords, Arlene & Grenville Henwood, Doreen & Orlyn Vonbargen, June & Bruno Rausch, Kay Rausch; in laws Harley & Marg Needham; as well as a host of other relatives and some special nephews.
