Irene Agnes House, a long time resident of Dauphin, passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 11, 2024 in Brandon, a few months shy of her 90th birthday.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Betty Mayer, sister Leila and her husband Bob Woods, brother-in-law Gene Lylyk, sister-in-law Gina Mayer, and son-in-law, Darcy Parrott.
She is survived by her daughter Debbie Parrott (Craig Fraser) and Debbie’s children Jeff Parrott and Jodi (Lochlin) Broatch; daughter Maureen (David) Lindsay and their children, Nick (Alison) and great-grandson Hamish Lindsay, Fallon Lindsay (Ben McAllister), Brianne (Ben) Hughes and great-grandson William Hughes; daughter Shari House and son, Callum House; as well as daughter Michelle (Peter) Kokan and their children, Thomas, Faye, and Steven Kokan.
Mom is also survived by her brother, Albert Mayer, sisters Dorothy (Alex) Soloway, and Lynn Lylyk, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She is also survived by Buddy, her foster cat, a big handsome tuxedo, who kept her entertained and loved in her last years.
Mom was born on the farm in the Alpine district, just south of Benito Manitoba. From the day she was old enough to haul kittens down to the house from the barn, she loved cats. She began working at the Dauphin Medical Clinic in the late 1960’s, first relief, then part-time and later full-time. She worked there until she retired, meeting many people and touching many lives.
Mom lived big, loved bigger, loved laughter - and is irreplaceable. She was quick witted and unflinching in her values. She shared her enthusiasm and love of life generously with family, friends, and neighbours.
Although Mom loved flowers, she always said she loved cats more. Mom asked that in lieu of flowers, if friends and family were so inclined, to please make a donation to the Parkland Humane Society (Box 805, Dauphin MB, R7N 3B3) or the Brandon Humane Society (2200 - 17th Street East, Brandon, MB R7A 7M6) from where her most recent cat, Buddy, was a foster.
We love you, Mom.
Your time on Earth is limited.
Don’t try to “age with grace”;
age with mischief, audacity,
and a good story to tell.
A Celebration of Life (Come and Go Lunch) for Irene was held at the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Center on Saturday, June 21, 2025 beginning at 2:00 pm.
