Mom peacefully passed away October 24, 2023, at the Grandview Personal Care Home with family by her side, covered with a “Nimble Thimble” quilt.
Mom was born in Grandview on the second of December of ’32 to Harry & Etta Groombridge.
She attended the Valley River School a couple of miles from her home. Mom was locally employed after school until her marriage to Dad in 1951.
Mom and Dad moved to Flin Flon and returned home to the family farm a couple of years later with Irvin in tow. A couple of years later Ralph was born, and a while later Roger.
The family gatherings in Mom’s kitchen were memories in the making. All aspects of those gathering were Mom’s.
Mom’s creativity was not just channeled through her cooking, but through sewing, knitting, crocheting, and quilting.
Quilting became Mom’s passion, we all had quilts that kept us warm. Our quilts were like Dolly’s Coat of Many Colors “sewin’ every piece with love”.
During Dad's stay at the GV PCH Mom spearheaded the Nimble Thimble Quilting Club to make and donate quilts to the care home for the residents.
Mom leaves to mourn her children Irvin (Wanda) and Roger (Pommy). Her grandchildren Patrick (Lisa), Melody (Drew), Bryce, Chelsea (Jon), Zachary (Susanna), Alexis (Terron), and Jakob. Her sister Jean Harburn. Great Grandchildren Travis Jack and Mary Joy. Her daughter-in-law Marla. Sister-in-law Irene Palmer.
Mom is predeceased by her parents. Her husband Len, son Ralph, grand-daughter Michelle, daughter-in-law Joy, brothers-in-law Chester, Jack, Bill and Danny, sisters-in-law Elsie and Audrey.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 15, 2024 at Grandview Memorial Gardens & District Cemetery.
