It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ian Floyd Grexton on June 22, 2025, at the age of 73.
Ian passed away peacefully at home, with his family by his side.
He was predeceased by his father, Floyd Grexton, and his mother, Lois Grexton (née Crossley).
Ian will be deeply missed by his wife, Joan; his children, Shauna Grexton (Jason Shullman), Nancy Grexton (Steven Payne), and TJ Grexton; and his beloved grandchildren, Jayda Gryba, Benson Gryba, Fletcher Grexton, and Nylah Grexton.
After graduating from high school, Ian attended Brandon University for four years. He returned home to help on the family farm, and it was during this time that he met Joan Goossen. They were married on February 21, 1976, and together they raised three children. Ian continued to farm with dedication and pride until his health no longer allowed him to do so.
He always welcomed a visit, and those who stopped by were met with good stories, thoughtful conversation, and quiet generosity.
He will be remembered for his down-to-earth nature, his love of the land, and the way he made others feel welcome.
He took great pride in his land and found true joy in sharing it with his family and hunting friends. Through his hunting business, he formed meaningful bonds—friendships he deeply valued. Whether he was watching the wildlife, going for quiet drives, or checking on the crops, he was most at peace surrounded by nature.
Ian’s greatest wish was to leave behind something lasting for his family. The land he loved so deeply will continue to be a place for his children and grandchildren to gather, grow, and enjoy — just as he always hoped.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Donations in Ian’s memory can be made to the Grandview Museum (formerly the Watson Crossley Museum).
The Hunter’s Path
He walked the fields at break of day,
Where golden light would guide his way.
A steady step, a watchful eye,
Beneath the vast and open sky.
He knew the land like it knew him—
Each ridge and trail, each grassy rim.
Where deer had passed or birds would call,
He found his peace through it all.
With faithful boots and weathered hands,
He taught us more than crops and land—
He showed us how to pause and see
The quiet grace in wild and free.
Now silence falls where echoes stayed,
The trees still stand, the trails won’t fade.
And though he’s gone, the fields remain,
A place to walk and feel his name.
So when we hunt, or stop to rest,
We’ll think of him and feel him best.
In nature’s hush, in evening’s light—
He’s with us still, at morning’s sight.
