Helen was born on May 26,1932 in Gilbert Plains to Matthew & Cassie (Sydor) Hominuk. She was raised on the family farm with her 5 siblings and attended Tanner School.
On June 20,1951, Helen married Peter Zadorozny and began their life together on the farm north of Ashville. They enjoyed 55 years together before Peter’s passing in 2006.
They raised their family of 5 children on the farm before moving to the village of Ashville when Peter became Postmaster for Canada Post. Along with running the post office, they continued to grain farm and raise livestock. Helen also grew a large garden every year and was kept busy with canning at harvest time.
Helen enjoyed knitting and crocheting very much. She especially liked when a new baby was born so she could make a special blanket or outfit for the little one. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were very special to her.
Keeping up with the British Royal family is something that kept Helen busy. She loyally awoke early to watch the Royal weddings and Princess Diana’s funeral. She bought every magazine or paper that featured them on the front cover. Her granddaughter Shayla shared a conversation she recently had with Baba. She mentioned to baba that Prince Charles was going to be crowned the King and Baba replied to her “Not in my lifetime!” She was almost right about that, since she passed away just days after the coronation of King Charles.
Helen passed away peacefully on May 9,2023 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home with her family by her side.
She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 2006 and numerous other family members.
She is survived by her children…Gaylene (Gerry) Musey, Gail Lukie, Cheryl Chetyrbok, Sharon Smith and Randy (Eleanor) Zadorozny; her 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; her brother Bill(Joyce) Hominuk and several nieces and nephews.
