Helen Puchailo was born on June 7, 1925. She entered peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Saviour, Jesus on February 27th, 2026. She quietly battled through many health issues courageously without complaint.
Helen was the eldest daughter of Klym and Nellie Deczycia, and was raised on the farm in the Venlaw area. Helen helped her mother with her many siblings and various other household tasks. Community dances were a place to gather. It was at one of these dances that she met her future husband, Mike Puchailo. They both enjoyed dancing very much. Helen and Mike were married June 16th, 1945, and had 8 children together; Albert, Sylvia, Eddie, Melvin, Debby, Kelly, Danny and Laurie Ann.
On the family farm, she worked side by side with Mike for many years. Helen enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening, farming and looking after her beautiful flowers. Watching hummingbirds fight for a place at her feeder also brought her such joy. But most of all, Helen especially loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed family trips to B.C., Niagara Falls, Ontario, Hawaii, and Mexico, to name a few. She was the heart and soul of our family gatherings. Helen valued her family and friends above all else.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Klym and Nellie; sons Eddie and Danny; daughter Laurie Ann; brothers Charlie, Matt, Bill, Alex (Elsie), Mike, Steve, Walter (Agnes), Pete; sister Nettie (Tom) along with brother in law Ivan; daughter-in-law Ann and her sons-in-law the two Garrys'.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother Harry; sister Tillie; sons Albert and Melvin; daughters Sylvia (Charles), Debby (Clayton) and Kelly (Sean); sisters in law Betty and Diane; along with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service was held for Helen on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at 11:00 am from the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Rev. Fr. Oleg Bodnarski officiating.
Interment followed at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Parish Cemetery, in Grifton, MB.
