Obituary

Harvey Alfred Taylor at the age of 85 passed away April 24, 2023 at the St. Boniface hospital with family at his side.
Harvey was born June 2, 1937 in Dauphin, MB to Archie and Mabel Taylor. He grew up on the family farm at SW 5 26 22, Gilbert Plains Manitoba. He was the oldest of 4 boys, Ronald, George and Mervin.  He went to school at the Eldon country school house.  On July 8, 1966 he married Linda Hicks in Gilbert Plains and started their family at the family farm. A year later they welcomed their first child, Shannon, and 2 years later, their son Scotte, 6 years later they had a surprise and Kristen was born. Harvey was a farmer his whole life. He raised chickens, cows and pigs as well grain farmed with his brothers; Dad even sold eggs to Thompson and Flin Flon. In 2002 Harvey and Linda retired to town at 108 Veterns Drive. Being a man that bled green he was able to find a retirement job working for Genik Farms and their John Deere equipment.
Dad also loved Ford vehicles from his first car, a 62 Ford Fairlane to his last 1997 Ford F150 truck and he loved that decal.
Many summers were spent camping with his family, fitting as many of his kids and grandkids into the camper that we could fit. He really enjoyed the last several years at his seasonal site at Onanole especially because it was right next to the pool where he spent a lot of time.
Dad enjoyed curling and bonspieling with his family and friends. In his younger years he travelled all over Manitoba bonspieling in many rinks with many of his friends. In his later years, he was able to curl with all of his kids and some of his grandchildren. Dad’s love of curling lasted until just a few years ago by using the stick. Dad also loved golfing in the summer, in fact, that is where he met Linda many years ago at the original golf course by where she lived. He also enjoyed bowling.
In 1989 Scotte gave dad a video camera for Christmas and this spurred on a new passion for dad. Dad taped many events in Gilbert Plains and surrounding area, recording concerts, fairs, plays, grads, hockey games, Old Tyme dances, weddings and anything else he could take his camera to. Mom said the Access station was his second home.
Dad volunteered on many boards: Museum, Historical Society, Negrych site, Pool Board, Life member of the GP Curling Club, and of course Westman Cable Access TV.
In his retirement years dad spend many mornings and afternoons at the coffee shop bs-ing with his friends. He also loved to brag about his kids and grandkids every chance he got. Everyone knew what his family was up to.
Harvey is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda: children, Shannon (Wayne Priest), Scotte (Michelle), Kristen (Craig Rubeniuk). Grandchildren, Jennilee Paziuk, Jaret Priest, Bailey Taylor, Brooklyn Taylor, step-grandchildren Kian, Kade, Koen Chartand, Carter Rubeniuk, Corbin Rubeniuk (Samantha Robak), Kyler Rubeniuk.
