Obituary

With great sorrow, the family of Harvey Lee Soloway announce his sudden passing at the age of 64 years at his home in Garland, MB.

Harvey was born on December 3rd, 1958 to Steve and Helen (Pelypiw) Soloway.  Harvey was the third of four siblings to be raised on the Soloway Farm in Pulp River, MB.

Harvey attended schools in Pulp River, Pine River, and Ethelbert but school was not his thing.  He chose to help take over the Soloway Family Farm and start his own trucking business, Harvey Soloway Trucking at a young age instead of completing school.

In 1988, Harvey found out that he was going to be a father.  Shortly after, he got the surprise of a lifetime when he found out it was a two-for-one deal; twins!  Courtney and Kristen were born in January of 1989 and filled a space in his heart he never knew existed.

In April of 2001, Harvey was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease.  While it was a devastating diagnosis for him to accept and navigate through, it softened his heart and showed him that life is short. It helped him appreciate and not take for granted his time with family and friends.

On top of farming, Harvey was very skilled at operating heavy-duty equipment.  He spent many years logging with his cherry-picker truck.  He travelled many places for work which included logging, decommissioning railroads at one time, and moving large buildings with Minty’s Moving.  His skills and accuracy earned him the right to lead operations with confidence.  His later years were spent farming garlic.

Harvey came to be quite the inventor.  He would invent anything from post pounders to wood splitters to hydraulic lifts in the shop. He was a big dreamer and a “go big or go home kind of person.”  He would spend hours tending to his huge garden, harvesting his crop, grinding his garlic into powder, and selling his veggies at markets.

Harvey was predeceased by his father, Steve Soloway in 1966, Mother, Helen Soloway in 2012, older brother, Leslie Soloway in 2012, as well as many friends and family members he held special bonds with.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Courtney (Neil) Pierce of Naicam, SK and Kristen (Bryan) Yakimishen of Dauphin, MB as well as his grandchildren, William and Brooke Yakimishen and their sibling on the way.  He also leaves behind his special friend, Kathy Phillips of Stonewall, MB, older brother Orville (Debbie) Soloway of Pine River, MB and younger sister Angeline (Kevin) Birch of Winnipeg, MB; nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, many friends, and neighbours that all made a huge impact in his life.

Courtney and Kristen would like to thank all of Harvey’s friends who looked out for him over the years.  He may have been a man of few words, but he treasured each friend and gesture extended to him.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
