Gloria Hering Obituary

Gloria Cathleen Hering (nee Balan) of Dauphin, Manitoba went peacefully on April 7, 2019 at the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home at the age of 75. She was born an only child in Swan River, Manitoba on September 20, 1943 to John and Mary (nee Matychuk) Balan.
Gloria was homeschooled until October 1954, when at the age of 11, she lost her mother Mary in a farm accident. She stayed with relatives in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and Whitebeech, Saskatchewan during the school year while she spent summers on her father’s farm.  In 1954, her father and step-mother, Victoria Parachoniak, moved the farm house into Swan River where Gloria attended high school at the age of 15.
After high school Gloria graduated from Little’s Business College in Dauphin and started working for MTS. It was at this time that she met her future husband Cyril Hering. Gloria and Cyril were married on February 8, 1964 at St. Viator’s Church in Dauphin.
Shortly after they were married, Cyril and Gloria had three children - Linda, Rene, and Darci. Gloria and her family lived on a farm north of Dauphin where they started a mixed farm. Over the next 13 years they tried their hand with dairy, grain, eggs, poultry, beef and pork. Gloria was very active with the National Farmers Union working with the international committee among other duties.
In 1977, Gloria moved with her family one mile closer to Dauphin where they focused on grain farming and eventually started a taxi business. Gloria also began a career at the Dauphin General  Hospital which lasted 25 years.
Nothing meant more to Gloria than family and friends. She was never one to slow down. After her children made their own way and she retired, Gloria became active with the Legion, the Catholic Women’s League and the Dauphin Agricultural Heritage Club.
Gloria, along with her friends Patricia and Maria, called themselves the “Three Amigos”. They would enjoy themselves taking drives and going out to the Dauphin Legion, local restaurants, Clear Lake, Gilbert Plains, and provincial parks.
Gloria was predeceased by her father John Balan, mother Mary Balan (nee Matychuk), step mother Victoria Parachoniak, father-in-law Oscar Hering, mother-in-law Barbara Hering (nee Schmoeller) and husband Cyril Hering. She leaves daughter Linda Bischoff (nee Hering), son-in-law Anthony Bischoff, grandchildren Ashley Markle, Sarah Clews (nee Markle) and husband Ryan Clews;  great-grandchildren Samantha and Jack Clews, and Isis Kramers (Zach Toornstra), also James Bischoff, Brittany Raycraft and Savannah Bischoff.
