It is with great sadness that we mourn the loss of our dad, grandpa, great grandpa, partner, brother and uncle Gérard Joseph Labelle (Gerry).
Dad passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home in Ste. Rose du Lac.
He was born the 13th of 16 children to Albert and Albertine Labelle (nee Pinette) in Ste. Amelie, MB on June 24, 1943. Gerry has a short education and worked from an early age. Besides working on the family farm, he worked millwork, mining and logging during the winter months. Gerry began farming with his family in Ste. Amelie, MB in 1966.
While working in Ontario, he met and married Rita Bouchard in 1969 in Sioux Lookout. Soon after being married, they moved to Ste. Rose and in early 1970, they bought a farm in Ste.Amelie, MB. They has three sons Patrick, Jeffrey, & Gerry Jr and one daughter Carole. Mom and Dad divorced in November of 1998 and Dad continued farming until 2015. In 2010 he met Brenda Dawson and they spent 14 1/2 years together, spending time together listening to Bobbie McGee and country cruising to Beaver Dam and watching Canadiens and Jets games. In 2020, Dad moved to Ste. Rose and in 2024 he moved to the Dr. Gendreau Personal Care Home.
Dad always loved his Montreal Canadiens. While watching his favorite team, he would have a shot of his "medicine" and a couple of Old Port Cigars. In his younger years, Dad liked a good card game where usually things got a little loud and rowdy (Who's cheating who). Dad was known to be a avid debater. When challenged, he would say "If you don't believe me, just ask me" or "Am I right or am I right?"
He was a hardworking man whose strength showed not only in the long hours that he put it, but in the quiet subtle ways he gave to his family - never boastful, always steady. Though tough on the outside, with calloused hands and a firm presence, his heart was always soft when it came to those he loved, always giving more than he ever let on.
Gerry Sr is survived by his sons Patrick, Jeffrey (Shandi), Gerry Jr and his daughter Carole (Dennis), Gerry leaves to mourn; six grandchildren Byrdee Jo, Devin, Cameron, Carley, Cayden and Abbigael. From the first grandchild to the last, he loved and spoiled each dearly. He also had six beautiful great grandchildren Weston, Jensen, Miller, Chandler, Ozzi-Lou, & Asa-Grace. With each new addition to his family, he found even more joy and pride, leaving behind a legacy of love that will live on through them all. Gerry will be remembered always by his partner Brenda Dawson and her children; daughter Tara and her partner Kevin Malcolm and their children Dawson and Kira, her son Jason, his brother Joseph (Denise), sister Cecile (Gus) along with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members
Gerry Sr was predeceased by his parents, seven brothers and six sisters.
Funeral Service was held on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 11:00 am from Ste. Rose de Lima Roman Catholic Church in Ste Rose du Lac, MB with Fr. James Ahaneku officiating. Interment followed in Ste. Amelie Cemetery in Ste. Amelie, MB.
