Gerald White Obituary

Gerald Francis White of Dauphin, beloved husband of Gail and loving father to Suzanne and Kristine, passed away on Friday, May 1, 2020 at the age of 82 years after a short stay at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre, of congestive heart failure.
Lovingly remembered by his wife of 56 years, Gail and daughters, Suzanne (Grant) Basiuk, and Kristine (Alan) Luke; grandchildren, Troy and Ryan Luke and Holly and Toban Basiuk; sisters, Wilma (Garnie) Kissick and Donna (Adrian) Kolton and brother, Raymond (Jacki) White and their families.
Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Francis and Fleda (Parrott) White of Franklin MB.
Gerry enjoyed a work life in hardware, over the years, at Strock Hardware in Neepawa, MacLeods and McMunn and Yates in Dauphin.  He liked meeting people and being helpful.  He took great joy in building new bicycles for his family and friends and was always there to open up the store when a hardware emergency occurred.  There always seemed to be a water heater that failed on Christmas morning somewhere and he gladly helped out.
In retirement he enjoyed being a forecaddie at several Clear Lake Golf Course tournaments and played many years in the Tamarack Tournament at that same golf course.
He also loved nature, especially wild birds, and later wished he had become a park ranger.  He spent many happy hours in the woods in his youth and always wanted to know how many bears we saw on a drive through the park.
Gerry had a joyful, youthful nature.  He loved sports, both participating and watching.  He enjoyed many years of curling, golfing and fishing.  He was an excellent roller skater having practiced every summer up at Clear Lake in his youth and a very smooth dancer.  His favorite hobby became carving decoy ducks, loons, and many other birds.  He was very talented and his carvings adorn many shelves in Dauphin and abroad.
Gerry loved his friends: Golf buddies Reg Meakin, Eric Burr, Cliff Lenz, Dave Bjarnason, and Bob Green.  He would get up before dawn to be ready for a golf date but not for anything else!
Our family has many happy memories of summers at Clear Lake and Gerry’s spirit will always be with us in that special place.  His favorite spot was sitting in front of his cabin where he could see everyone coming and going.  Neighbors have often said that they knew everything was right with the world when Gerry was there carving or just ready to wave and chat.  He remembered everyone’s name and always had a smile and a wisecrack.  He will be missed by everyone one who knew him in the Old Camp Ground.
In Memory of Gerry, please consider a donation to Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or Cancer Care Manitoba.  A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when we can all gather in his memory.

In keeping with Gerry's wish, cremation will take place with a Celebration of his Life to be held at a later date.

Should friends so desire, donations in memory of Gerry may be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation or to Cancer Care Manitoba.
