With great sadness, we announce the passing of Leonard George Henry Walker on Monday, March 16, 2026, at the age of 72.
George was born on October 16, 1953, to Leonard and Joyce Walker (née Campbell). He spent his entire life on the family farm located on SE 16-20-14W in the Municipality of McCreary—a place that was not just his home, but his lifelong passion. George farmed alongside his father until Leonard’s passing in December 1995, and he continued to dedicate himself wholeheartedly to the land he loved.
Farming was more than a livelihood to George—it was who he was. A true cattleman, he took pride in raising Charolais, Simmental, Angus, and Hereford cattle. He had a special fondness for the big calves from Charolais and Simmental herds, though in later years he came to appreciate the resilience of Angus calves. George was also a devoted John Deere man, with a particular love for his JD 4020—no front-wheel assist, no cab, just George, his tractor, and the open air doing what he loved most.
On June 20, 1997, George married Kimberley Dawn Marie (née Tremorin), and together they built a life and raised their two children, Robert and Sara.
George will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Kim; his son Robert (Laine Burgess) Walker; and his daughter Sara (Layne) Turko. He was a proud grandfather to Atlas and Thor Walker, and Blake, Braylee, and Ryan Turko. He is also survived by his six siblings: Judy (Reg) Branconier, Linda (Andrew) Zenner, Shirley (Allan) Teeple, Glynis (Jim) Sargent, Gail Walker, and Gerald (Sandy) Walker, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
George was predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Joyce Walker (née Campbell), and his mother-in-law, Audrey Tremorin (née Pritchard).
George will be remembered as a simple, kind, and compassionate man who was quietly generous and always willing to lend a hand. His deep love of farming, his quiet strength, and his unwavering dedication to his family and the land will never be forgotten. His legacy will live on in the fields he worked, the family he raised, and the many lives he touched.
A celebration of George’s life will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at 2 pm at the McCreary Community Centre in McCreary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's name to the McCreary/Alonsa Personal Care Home.
