George Gray Obituary

George Ernest Gray, 97 years, died at the Grandview Personal Care Home in Grandview on April 26, 2021 at the age of 97 years.

Born November 25, 1923 in rural Grandview, twin to Edna, son to Ernest and Gertrude (nee Nelson) he attended the Duck Mountain School to Grade 9.  He farmed at River View Farms with his father and eventually farmed his own land in Grandview and Balgonie, SK.

He is survived by his brother, Bruce and wife Janet; his cousin, Glen Gray, and his sisters-in-law, Margaret Peterson and June Dakiniewich as well as many nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife, Caroline (Joice); his sisters, Doris Friesen and husband Tom, Edna Baldrow and husband, Lorne, and by his brother Ivan Gray and sister-in-law, Shirley Gray.

George and Caroline married in 1967 at Estevan, SK.  In 1975 they moved from Grandview to Balgonie, SK where they farmed, raised Simmental cattle and milked Holsteins for cream sale.  They were also involved with many Home-Based businesses.  In 2007 George and Caroline moved back to Grandview, fast becoming cherished members of the community of Grandview and of the church family at Roblin Free Methodist Church. George was proud of his Father’s World War I service and involvement at the Battle of Somme where Ernest was wounded.
George was a good neighbor and friend.  He enjoyed time visiting with people at the coffee shop and he enjoyed a good fishing trip.  But above all else George was a true Christian and tried to live his life according to God’s will.  George wondered why God had drawn he and Caroline back to Grandview.  After he met the program participants at Grandview Gateways, he said that both he and Caroline agreed that this was their mission - to help the people in the programs at Grandview.  George formed many close and caring relationships with the program participants.
