It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Belhumeur of Winnipegosis at the age of 77 years old. George was born on February 15, 1946 in his family home in Camperville, MB. Coming from a large family he quickly became a son, a brother and a very loved uncle.
George met the love of his life Faye Stevenson in 1969 and they married on October 28, 1971. They spent the last 54 years together through the good times and the tough times. Thirty-one years ago, George suffered a broken heart when he lost the boys. Not a day goes by that he didn't miss Mark and Chris, but now they are together again.
During the past 30 years George was able to find his smile again as his family grew and his grandchildren were born. He was full of love and light, adventures and tall tales for his grandchildren and wanted to spend every moment he could in the comfort and happiness of their company. He was a loving family man. It didn’t matter if you were his wife, sibling, his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or a friend, George would always give you an ear if you wanted it, wisdom if you asked for it, or a swift kick in the arse if you needed it.
George was a proud Metis man. He was a logger, a trapper, a knowledge keeper, and a storyteller. He was always quick to teach and explain his reasoning's. He was deeply genuine, and was as loyal as they get. Not only was George a skilled man and an artist, he was often found strumming his guitar and singing songs, or creating some sort of beautiful art.
George loved touring the areas where he grew up and knew the land. There were many trips in the shotgun seat where he would drive, and you would just soak up his stories and knowledge. He was one of a kind and had a special sense of humor that could make an entire room fill with laughter.
All of us gathered here are eternally grateful for you being such a big part of our lives George. We love you, we miss you, but most importantly we will see you again.
George is survived by his wife Faye of 52 years; sons, Marc (Paige), David (Jen) and daughter Jodie (Smitty). Grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley), Emma (Kody), Riley, Randy, Marcus (Tatym) and Cooper. Great Grandchildren, Bennett and Kaisley. His brother Paul; sisters, Jane and Debbie along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Victor and Annie; his youngest son Mark; brothers, David, Albert and Fred; sisters, Alma, Cecile, Alice, Rose, Marg, baby Marie, and brothers in law Brad and Chris.
