Frederick (Rick) Douglas Zaplitny

With great sadness, we announce the sudden and peaceful passing of Rick Zaplitny on March 2, 2025 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home at the age of 78, with his wife Bev by his side.

Rick was born on August 7, 1946 in Dauphin and married the love of his life, Bev, in 1970.  He earned his Chartered Accountant designation in 1973.

Rick spent nearly his entire life in Dauphin and was deeply connected with the community.  In addition to raising a family with Bev and owning a successful business, he made countless contributions to the community. He served a term as town councilor and deputy mayor, was an active member of community service groups such as the Kinsmen, Masons and Shriners and was a past board member and Chair of the St. Paul’s Personal Care Home.

Beyond his local commitments, Rick dedicated many years to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, eventually serving as Chair.  Having experienced heart-related health challenges himself, this cause was near and dear to him.

Rick enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, bowling and was a long-time Dauphin Kings season ticket holder.  Later in life, Rick became a voracious reader and maintained his love for cribbage.

Above all, Rick was devoted to his family, raising Chris and Paula and sharing his love of sports, activities and travel while instilling in them the importance of education.  Family trips across western Canada and many summers in Clear Lake will never be forgotten.  Later in life, Rick and Bev found great joy in travelling to Bermuda and the Cayman Islands to visit their children, especially when grandchildren started to arrive.

Rick is survived by his loving wife, Bev; son Chris (Kathy); daughter Paula (Richard); grandchildren Rylan, Cade, Annabelle and Elisabeth; sister Gail White; brothers John (Linda) and Michael (Michelle); mother-in-law Kay Lysak; sisters-in-law Barb Mrozowich (Jerry) and Connie Neilipovitz (Bill) and numerous other extended family members.  Rick was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Elizabeth Zaplitny (nee Koshey); his father-in-law John Lysak; his brother-in-law Gerry White; and his sister-in-law Susan Zaplitny.

The family is extremely grateful for the compassionate care provided by the staff at the Dauphin and Grandview hospitals, and the Dauphin Personal Care Home where Rick spent the last several months of his life.

A Celebration of Life was held for Rick on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin with Ryan Raffray officiating.
