Frances Andries Obituary

Peacefully with family by her side Frances Andries passed away February 11, 2020 at the age of 86 years, at the Dauphin Personal Care Home.

Frances is survived by daughter Myra Rank, son-in-law Wayne Rank; sons William Andries and Gerald Andries; and brother Peter Burtniak.  Her legacy continues with grandchildren Jennifer, Shantelle, Bryon, Asia and Erica. Her great grandchildren were the apple of her eye, Phoenix, Snow, Jackson, Gabrielle, Tyra-Jane, Shealynn and Steven.

Frances was born in 1933 to William and Nellie Burtniak.  She was the second youngest child of a family of 5 sisters and 5 brothers.  She lived her childhood on the family farm in Keld.  Frances attended a one room school house in Kosiew which meant a three mile walk to get there.  She was very active in school which included singing and the love of baseball, her position was shortstop where the action was.
Fran ventured to Winnipeg to get a taste of the city life.  She was employed by Safeway and loved the job.  Life challenges brought Frances back to Dauphin when her mother got sick.  During this time she met and married Thomas Andries in 1956.

Frances was blessed with four children in five years, Myra, William, Henry and Gerald.  The household was busy with cooking, baking, gardening, sewing and crocheting.  There was always homemade cookies in the cookie jar.  Being the entrepreneur she was she looked after and owned a boarding house for three years.  In 1960 Fran and Tom went back to the Andries family farm.  She even ran the combine during harvest. In 1972 they retired from farming. Fran and Tom worked side by side with their furniture store and rental properties.  They were very self sufficient.  Despite many trials and tribulations they took care of each other.  Her refuge was working at Birss Greenhouse and helping Myra and Rae cater.

To describe Fran -- beautiful smile, feisty, joker, straight shooter, hard worker and life of the party.  She had charisma!  Frances was a strong woman with much faith despite all the blows life sent her way.  Everyone has their own stories and memories of time together with Fran.  Keep them in your hearts and enjoy them when you think of her.

Frances was predeceased by her parents William and Nellie Burtniak; husband Thomas; son Henry; grandsons Willy and Clayton; brothers Steve, Matt, John and Michael; sisters Anne, Mary, Helen, Olive and Jean.

The family would like to thank the Dauphin Personal Care Home for the care and compassion they had shown to Frances.  Special thank you to Father Brent Kuzyk, Joe Coffey and Genny Carriere at Sneath-Strilchuk Funeral Services.
