Eva Rempel

Eva Rempel of Dauphin, Manitoba formerly of Winnipegosis, Manitoba passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 at the age of 89 years. Eva Susie Rempel was born in Hague Saskatchewan on March 8, 1930.  She was one of 12 children born to John and Maria Andres (nee Dyck) who immigrated to Canada from Russia in 1926.  She went home to be with the Lord on August 5, 2019 at the age of 89 years at the Dauphin General Hospital.

For the first 6 years of her life she lived in the Hague/Hepburn area of Saskatchewan.  In 1936 her family moved to the Fork River area in Manitoba where she later attended the Fork River school.  Eva was an adventurous teenage girl who would often be found shingling roofs and driving tractors. It was in Fork River that she met the love of her life, John Rempel.  They dated and then got married on November 3, 1949.  After the wedding they attended Elim Bible College in Altona, Manitoba until April 1950.  The Lord blessed them with 18 children and they enjoyed 63 wonderful years of marriage. 

Together, John and Eva worked on the Rempel family farm in the Fork River area.  Her Heavenly Father was always her first love.  As she went about her daily life working in her kitchen, her garden and on the farm, she took every opportunity she had to share her faith with her children, in-laws and grandchildren. Family was everything to Eva.  She enjoyed hosting family gatherings for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, her birthday and dad’s birthday.  As her family continued to grow she took it all in stride and treasured every new in-law and baby.  She loved having her house full and made sure each person received a hug and a word of encouragement from her before they left. She received great joy from visiting with everyone who stopped at their home.  It didn’t matter if the person was an invited guest or a stranger who knocked at their door.  Everyone was welcomed, loved and fed before leaving their home.

Her heart of love and service reached far beyond her family and home.  Together with her husband she was part of the church leadership and she gladly served there in many capacities.  For many years the Rempel family were involved at Sagamace Bible camp.  Eva spent her time there cooking meals for the campers. In 1987 Eva and John retired from farming and started working at Winnipegosis Sagamace Place, an adult supported living home.  Those who lived there quickly became part of the family in her heart and she showered them with love.    She enjoyed cooking with the residents and helping them learn how to be successful in their lives.Eva loved to sing.  She would take time out of her busy day to play piano and sing her favourite songs with those who were visiting.  She and John sang together in church and liked to sing to those they visited in hospital. As we think of how she lived her daily life these verses come to mind, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.  In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”  Proverbs 3:5 & 6 (NKJV).  Eva put her faith and trust in God to guide and direct her steps each day of her life. 

She will be lovingly remembered by her family as a woman of God who adored each one of them.  She worked hard because she knew it benefited those around her.  She gave love because she knew great love.  She sang because she knew great joy.  She prayed because she knew it was where she found her strength.  She served because it gave her great happiness.  She shared her faith because she wanted others to know her Father. Though she is gone from our presence her legacy of love and joy will forever be in our hearts.  

 Eva was predeceased by her parents John and Maria Andres, husband John, daughter Naomi, daughter Elizabeth, sister Mary Ens (Henry), brother John Andres (Agatha), brother Henry Andres (Eleanor), brother David Andres, brother George Andres (Agatha), sister Helen Andres, sister Anne Rempel, brother-in-law David Penner, sister-in-law Luella Andres, sister Edna Andres, son-in-law Allan Purdey and granddaughter Robyn Walterson and a number of brothers, sisters and in-laws of John Rempel. Eva will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her, sixteen children:  Esther Haverluck (Tim);  Joy Walterson (Bjarni);  John Rempel (Linda);  George Rempel (Mary);  Dave Rempel (Shannon);  Ed Rempel;  Eva Purdey;  Mary Bergen (Len); Martha Ras (Jake);  Herb Rempel (Laurie);  Bernie Rempel (Tammy);  Jake Rempel (Carolyn);  Shirley Johnson;  Sharon Korney (Steve);  Doug Rempel (Nancy);  Susie Bunka (Matthew).  Also left to mourn are her 3 siblings, 4 in-laws, 81 grandchildren, 69 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A public viewing was offered for Eva on Saturday August 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Nordheim Mennonite Church in Winnipegosis.

Interment followed in the Nordheim Mennonite Cemetery. Following the interment a Funeral Service for Eva was held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday August 10, 2019 at the Nordheim Mennonite Church in Winnipegosis.

Flowers are gratefully declined.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Eva's memory to the Dauphin Personal Care Home or to the Dauphin Regional Health Center Palliative Care Unit.
