Eva Fedak Obituary

Eva Fedak

Eva Fedak (nee Puhach) passed away on November 16th 2025 at the age of 102 years; just 5 months shy of her 103rd birthday. This amazing woman who was Mom, Baba, and Great-Baba, Wife, Aunt and Sister; passed away peacefully at Country Meadows Personal Care Home in Neepawa, after a week of illness.

Eva loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. Growing flowers, planting gardens, and caring for her home were where Eva spent a lot of her time. She was a member of the McCreary Ladies Legion Auxilliary and always offered her help to neighbours and friends. She was known for her excellent cooking and baking and won top prizes at the local fairs.

Born April 5, 1923 to John and Irene Puhach; Eva spent her early years on the family farm near Glencairn, Manitoba. At 15 yrs of age she left home to work at nearby relatives farms and later moved to Winnipeg to find work. She worked at several jobs in Winnipeg including a sewing factory and Canada Packers but was most proud of being a nanny and housekeeper for the Brown family who included her in trips to Ponemah and Victoria Beach and made her feel she was a valued member of their staff and part of the family. She relished her memories of that time for the rest of her life.

When William (Bill) Fedak returned from overseas service in WWII, Bill and Eva rekindled their friendship and eventually began dating. In June 1951, they married in the Glenhope Church. Within a couple of years they moved to what is still today their farmstead just south west of McCreary. Daughter Barbara was born in 1953, son Gregory in 1961 and daughter Jane in 1964. Bill and Eva milked cows and shipped cream; raised chickens and sold eggs, and had beef and pigs for livestock. Large gardens were planted every year and berry picking and preserving kept Eva busy. Eva was an exceptional seamstress and avid knitter. The family always had home made scarves, mittens, sweaters, and socks. She ensured that her family was well fed and cared for.

Over the years, the children left home, attended university, married, and made Bill and Eva grandparents; a role they relished. They loved spending time with their grandchildren (Cody, Brennan, Kevin, and Zoe) and always helped out or babysat when needed. Over the years, Greg worked with Bill to take over more of the farm as Eva slowly learned to plant smaller vegetable gardens and cook and bake on her own schedule. She still made the best perogies and cabbage rolls and her baking was always fresh and delicious.

In 2012, Bill took sick and passed at 94 yrs of age. Eva was 89 and was not ready to leave the farm. She lived on the farm until she turned 94 and then decided to move into Alpine Manor in McCreary. She was happy to have her own apartment and continued to bake and cook for herself and others for several years. In 2021 her first great-grandchild (Lincoln) arrived, bringing together 4 generations of Fedaks and in 2023 her second great-grandchild (Nova) came along. Eva was thrilled to be visited by family (especially the little ones) and friends and usually had some cookies to offer.

In her later years, Eva enjoyed watching curling and Question Period and reading several newspapers to keep up on recent happenings. She loved word puzzles and enjoyed connecting with her brother Mike and his wife Shirley in Kamloops by phone and letter. She was always happy when someone brought her Hawaiian pizza or Chinese food. Eva celebrated her 100th Birthday with a party at the Alpine Manor and was visited by many friends and family to mark the milestone. She was in good health and had a wonderful time.

In fall of 2023, Eva ended up in the Ste. Rose hospital due to illness and as a result, she had to move into the personal care home for more living assistance. She spent a year in Minnedosa PCH and enjoyed her time there. She then spent a few months in McCreary PCH before moving to Country Meadows in Neepawa. Eva had a strong mind and memory and enjoyed telling stories of her childhood and life to the aides and nurses who she thanked all the time for providing such good care of her. Her family also appreciated the great care that she received. A week before she passed, Eva took ill and her body could not fight anymore and Eva passed peacefully in her sleep. It was how she always wanted to go.

Eva leaves to mourn her passing;  brother Mike Puhach and his wife Shirley; son Greg and wife Leanne; daughter Jane and husband Grant; grandchildren Cody, Brennan and wife Natasha, Kevin and girlfriend Roberta and Zoe; great-grandchildren Lincoln and Nova. She also leaves nieces and nephews from both the Puhach and Fedak families. She was predeceased by her loving husband Bill in 2012 and daughter Barbara in 2020.

A memorial service will be held in April 2026 for both Eva and her daughter Barbara. Spring was Eva’s favorite time of the year as she planned her gardens and flower beds and ordered chicks’ so the family has decided to celebrate her life in her favorite season.

The family would like to thank the Minnedosa and McCreary PCH for their care of Eva. A special thank you goes to Country Meadows PCH for their exceptional care of Eva in her last days and their kindnesses to the family during that time. As did Eva, we say a prayer everyday for the kindness and care you provide to our mom and family.
