Eva Blake (nee Mulligan) passed away, surrounded by her family, on September 1, 2025, at the age of 82 years.
Eva was born in Neepawa Hospital on July 16, 1943, 3 months prior to her due date, to Richard and Marjorie Mulligan. She was raised on a farm in the Reeve district.
At the age of 12, Eva met the love of her life when a young man asked her to ride the Ferris wheel with her at the local fair. It was that day that she met the love of her life, Melvin Blake. Eva and Melvin were married on February 10, 1962. Together they lived in McCreary and raised 3 children, Tammie, Richard and Jill.
Over the years, Eva worked many jobs. As a young girl, she was a live-in nanny and waitress. Once the children were born, she worked several jobs all in which included cooking and cleaning. Her love for children continued when she babysat children in her home while her kids were young. The entire community knew her as a caregiver and a baker. Her butter tarts and pies were known around town and her decorated cakes were award winning. Anytime people were canvassing for food, Eva was always willing to lend a helping hand and donated her delicious baking. She gave her time to several organizations, including a 4H group where she shared her love for cooking with the local youth.
Eva also enjoyed canning, wood painting, caring for her thriving house plants and flipping through recipe books.
She loved spending time with friends and family. Her summers were spent camping with friends enjoying many laughs. Eva always greeted people with her warm smile and joking personality. She was “mom” to many kids as the door was always open. She also was loved by the neighbourhood dogs. She carried dog cookies wherever she went so that she would never disappoint them.
Eva is predeceased by her parents, her loving husband Melvin and her older brother Murray. Left to cherish her memory are her children Tammie, Richard (Angie), and Jill, her sister Shairanne, brother-in law Lewis (Pat), sister-in-law Hilda, as well as grandchildren Ty (Jessica), Emily (Colton), Kayla, Alanna, Drayton and Brooklyn. Eva will also be missed by her 3 great grand children, Gianna, Elliott, and Brooks along with many nieces and nephews. Eva’s favourite dogs, Oakley and Abby will also miss her belly rubs and cookies.
A celebration of Eva's life was held on Saturday, September 27, 2025, at 11:00 am at the McCreary Community Centre, McCreary, Manitoba
