Ervin “Erv” Lukas Tycholiz was born on January 21, 1938, in Pine River, Manitoba, to John and Anne Tycholis. Along with his brother, Lorne, and sister, Lorraine, the family later settled in the Dauphin area, where Erv spent most of his life.
Erv began his working life alongside his father at the local Firestone Tire center just off Main Street in Dauphin. He later became a respected Crown Life Insurance agent, building lasting relationships and friendships within the community.
Erv had a deep love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping across Western Canada, fishing at Waterhen and sailing in Dauphin and Clear Lake. He was also passionate about sports, especially golf and hockey. A former local golf club champion, Erv was equally dedicated to hockey, serving as President of the Dauphin Kings Hockey Club. During his time with the organization, he supported the development of many players and contributed to several successful seasons.
Erv was a longtime member of the Kinsmen and a proud 65-year member of AA, where he offered support and encouragement to many in their journeys toward change.
Entrepreneurial in spirit, Erv and his family operated a Pizza Place franchise, at one point managing four locations across Manitoba. In later years, the business evolved into a local family restaurant and catering company in Dauphin, which continues today under the ownership and operation of Bruce and Karla Tycholiz.
For the past 20 years, Erv lived in the Alonsa area, where he remained active in the community and worked as a consultant to many First Nation communities in the Waterhen, Alonsa region.
Erv will be remembered for his many lifelong friendships, including those with Pete and Ruth Monson, Jim and Peggy Finlater, and Kim Tycholiz.
He is survived by his brother Lorne and wife (Gail) Tycholiz; his five children, Bruce, Robert, Patti, Barry, and David; as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Erv passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 30, in Dauphin.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Dauphin Personal Care Home for their compassionate care.
Private services will be held in Dauphin in the summer of 2026.
