Ernie Frank Genik

Ernie Frank Genik, aged 79 years of Dauphin, MB passed away peacefully on August 8th, 2023 with his family by his side.

Ernie was a leap year baby, born on Feb 29th, 1944 to Annie (Boyachok) and Steve Genik. He was the 5th of 7 children and grew up on the family farm in the Kosiw/Keld area. He went to Kosiw District country school and then later went to the Dauphin Collegiate.   At the end of his senior year, Ernie moved to Toronto. Ernie decided to forward his education and received a diploma in Electronic Devices & Instrumentation. From there, he eventually started his own security & fire alarm installation company.

While in Toronto, Ernie met Jeanette Lucyk and they married on May 21st, 1977. Ernie and Jeanette moved back to Dauphin that same year and in 1978 they welcomed their son, Yuri. One year later, their daughter, Larissa arrived and their family was complete. Ernie bought the family homestead and built their house where they reside to this day.
 
Ernie was proud of his Ukrainian heritage and loved searching out information about his family's history and roots. He was president of the Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kosiw until his passing. Ernie was instrumental in getting the church designated Heritage status and supervised the extensive restorations the church underwent. Ernie's family was very important to him  and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.  

Ernie is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jeanette, son Yuri (Donna) Genik of Dauphin, daughter Larissa (Adam) Teeter of Dauphin, grandchildren Andriy and Alina Genik and Emmett Teeter. Sisters, Josephine Kolodka of Ste. Agathe, MB and Gloria (Bill) Holowenko of Winnipeg.   Ernie was predeceased by his parents Annie and Steve Genik. Siblings Walter, John, Alice and Tony.

Prayers were offered on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 7:00 pm from Sneath-Strilchuk Family Care Centre in Dauphin, MB.

Family Funeral Service was held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 am from Kosiw Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church in ,  with Rev. Father Brent Kuzyk officiating.  Interment followed in Kosiw Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.
