Elizabeth Kuby Obituary

It is with great sadness and love that we say goodbye to Elizabeth Kuby who passed away on June 16, 2025 at the age of 88 years.

Elizabeth Dudar was born on December 22, 1936 to Pauline and Panko Dudar. She attended Ethelbert School. Her mom passed away in 1943 when Elizabeth was seven years old. We believe that made her into the strong woman she was.

She married Victor Kuby on March 17, 1955. This past March they celebrated 70 years of marriage. She settled into farm life. She milked five cows, had chickens and pigs, huge vegetable and flower gardens and raised five children – all without running water. They lived on the farm for 62 years, retiring to Ethelbert in 2017.

They purchased their cottage at Singush Lake in 1986. Many hours were spent renovating, painting, staining and of course, many, many hours of fishing.

Mom was multi-talented in any craft, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching. She spent many hours making Ukrainian shirts for herself, Victor and grandchildren, Kate-Lyn and Kevin. She sewed many church alter cloths for Ethelbert and Mink Creek Catholic churches. One set was sent to the Ukraine. Everyone had a pair of Baba’s mittens and socks come winter. When asked who taught her how to do these things, she said no one, she taught herself.

Freshly baked bread and many other goodies were a staple in our house. She was a very talented baker, bread maker and cook. There was always a delicious snack to look forward to.

Mom and Dad enjoyed singing with the Ethelbert Vitriwka Choir and Dauphin Festival Choir. She spent many hours sewing costumes for the group. Highlights included singing at the Ukrainian Festival. Mom was proud to be a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Ethelbert. She also was a 4-H leader, enjoyed curling and loved trips to the casino in Yorkton. She was an avid reader. She utilized the public library and would anxiously wait for her package of books to arrive.

Elizabeth was predeceased by parents Pauline and Panko Dudar; in-laws Theodora and Nicholas Kuby; sisters Annie (Tony) Kshywieski, Jean (William) Mikolayenko, Mary (William) Maryniuk, Olga (Peter) Chunick, Nellie (Orest) Bilous, Nettie Dudar, her twin Edith; brother Bill (Irene) Dudar
