Wierbicki, Edward (September 25, 1930 - June 25, 2021) Passed away peacefully at the Dauphin Personal Care Home.
Loving husband to Virginia (Filipchuk). Loving father to Janice (Saccucci), Brian (1959 - 2009), Marvin and Darin. Loving grandfather to Olivia (Saccucci), Alexa (Wierbicki) and Mitchel (Wierbicki). Loving brother to Elizabeth (Bilash) and Stella (1923-1924). Loving son to Josef Wierbicki (1890-1932) and Dora Palaniuk (1903-1977).
Dad and his sister Elizabeth were raised on the family farm in the Zalicia area, near Garland, Manitoba. He was only 1 1/2 yrs old when his father Josef died on March 26, 1932 in a farming accident. His mother Dora took over the farm operation and along with her mother, Anna Palaniuk (Haydey,Hajdej), farmed and raised Dad and Elizabeth.
Dad attended Zalicia school and eventually took over the farm from Dora. He married Virginia Filipchuk on April 29, 1952 and together they farmed the same land as his parents. Their operation started as a mixed farm (grain, pigs, cattle-beef and dairy, poultry) but was eventually streamlined to beef and grain only. Throughout the years, Dad worked hard to provide for his family through cautious management, acquiring additional properties and skillful maintenance of his equipment. His toils fed his family and countless others whom would never meet him.
While farming fed Dad’s body, music fed his soul. Countless rainy days were spent in his bedroom practicing and composing. He was a renowned and sought after fiddler. For over a half century, people across the region began their married lives in musical celebration with Dad leading with his bow. His musical legacy lives on in his many recordings and compositions.
There will be no service. Cremation has taken place and Dad (Edward Wierbicki) will be interred at Little Lake Cemetery in Peterborough, Ontario next to his son, Brian.
