Eddy was born in Glenella, MB, on April 11, 1930, to George and Sophie (Stephanie) Turko. He resided in Alonsa, MB, until his passing on February 8, 2025, at the age of 94, after a long battle with kidney disease.
Eddy is survived by his wife, Paulina, and his sisters, Edna Turko and Marilyn (John) Turner. He was predeceased by his sisters, Margaret Mozdzen and Clara Bilski, and his brothers, Walter (Hank) Turko and Frederick Turko.
After seven years together, Eddy married his soul mate and lifelong partner, Paulina Jonasson, of Silver Ridge, MB, on July 29, 1961. Over the next 63 years, together they built our family farm from the ground up on what was basically a patch of trees and turned it into the beautiful family home property that it is. After Dad retired, both he and Mom spent endless hours maintaining the beautiful yard and flower gardens they created and received community awards for. Dad maintained the grass until the age of 94.
They raised four daughters: Bev, Barb (Jeff), Bernice (Brian) and Bernadine (Ken). Eddy has numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom he loved dearly.
In addition to farming full time, Eddy worked as a mower man/labourer with the Department of Highways for many years.
After Dad and Mom retired, they did quite a lot of traveling, including to Nashville, Las Vegas, the east and west coasts, even driving to Alaska!! Dad and Mom loved going to old time dances and would travel quite a distance to go to them. They were inseparable and although Dad worked hard all of his life, he and Mom had time to enjoy their retirement while they still could over the years.
A special thank you to Dr. Blais at the Ste. Rose Hospital and all of the staff who gave Dad and our family such wonderful care.
A special thank you also to the Doctors and staff at the Brandon Renal Clinic for all the many years of support they gave Dad and our family.
Should friends so desire, please consider remembering Edward with a donation to the Kidney Foundation of Canada - Manitoba Branch.
Rest easy Dad, until we meet again. We love you.
In keeping with Edward's wishes, cremation has taken place and his family will celebrate his life at a future date.
