After a short battle with aggressive cancer, Jerry Edward Houle, (Red Turtle) passed away peacefully on November 29, 2019 at the age of 83 with his family by his side. He was pre-deceased by his wife, Rita, his mother Edith Flett, his father Pierre Houle, his step-father Walter Flett, his sons Wayne Houle & Dennis St. Paul, his daughter-in-law, Donna Houle, sisters; Susan Head, Doreen Malcolm, Alice Mousseau, and brothers, James Flett, and John Flett.
He leaves behind his 3 daughters Linda Davis (Chris) and Kim Campbell (Dwayne), Shelley Chippeway (Ashley) and his son, Robin Houle (Cheryl), his siblings; Lawrence “Teddy Boy” Houle (Michelle), Percy Houle (Mary), Myrtle Houle (Elvis Hanslip), Claudia Houle (Edward ), Gertrude Flett, sister-in-law Val Flett; 10 grandchildren; Michelle Beaulieu, Kelly Davis, Lisa Davis, Ashley Hozempa (Mike), Brendan Houle, Michael Houle, Byron Houle, Kyle Houle, Keegan Campbell, and Bryce Campbell, 21 great-grandchildren; Evan Kipling, Jesse Kipling, Rylee Beaulieu, Raymond Delaronde, Rico Delaronde, Taylor Gale, Alia Gale, Dakota Lewis, Wayne Spence, Daniella Spence, Anthony Houle, Lilly Houle, Desmond Houle, Tasheena Traverse, Sykora Chief, Joseph Stevenson, Jacob Stevenson, William Barnsdale, Mya Barnsdale, Paige Barnsdale, and Noah Hozempa. Edward also leaves behind numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Edward was born on February 21, 1936 in Ebb & Flow First Nation, Manitoba to parents Pierre Houle and Edith Flett. He married his wife Rita in January 1958 and together they raised their 4 children; Linda, Wayne, Robin, Kim and 2 grandsons, Michael and Byron. Edward had a full career in the sewer and water industry passing on his knowledge and experience to all those he worked with. Edward and his wife were well known for their gardening, elaborate Christmas decorations, and love of Bingo and the Winnipeg Jets. Following the passing of his wife in 2008, Edward moved from Winnipeg and was cared for by both his daughters Kim and Linda. His last years were spent being cared for by his daughter Linda living in his home community of Ebb & Flow.
